Salary Grade: NC24 Salary Range: $84,471- $164,720
This is the Assistant Unit Head position in the Photogrammetry Unit. The Photogrammetry Unit acquires aerial imagery and generates geospatial information products used for transportation planning, design, and construction. It uses advanced technology to obtain reliable information on the environment by recording, interpreting, and measuring remotely sensed data. The unit also partners with other government agencies for statewide orthophotography and aerial LiDAR elevation data programs, serving as NCDOT's subject matter experts for aerial surveying. In this role you will:
+ Supervise and administer all the operational and administrative work groups within the Unit.
+ Provide oversight of overall scheduling, assigning, reviewing, monitoring, and regulation of all the work activities within the unit.
+ Ensure the quality, timeliness, and appropriateness of all images, planimetric, and terrain data, either derived internally or by private engineering firms, delivered by the unit.
+ Provide oversight of all administrative duties and functions associated with the operation of the unit within the organization.
+ Advise on unit budget, labor estimates, and material requirements.
+ Advise on human resource management functions including activities associated with hiring, discipline, and staff development.
+ Work independently which requires complex problem analysis, decision making, and organizational skills.
+ Maintain considerable organizational awareness and the monitoring of the unit’s objectives within the context of the organization’s stated goals.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

+ Considerable knowledge of professional transportation and geomatics engineering theory, techniques, practices, and procedures used in photogrammetry, remote sensing, LiDAR surveying, GPS surveying, conventional surveying, and GIS; and skills in applying this knowledge to transportation related issues.
+ Extensive knowledge of photogrammetry theory, techniques, practices, and procedures used to acquire digital aerial imagery, perform aerotriangulation, and produce digital geospatial information products used for transportation planning, design, and construction.
+ Experience ensuring all work adheres to local, state, and federal regulations, accepted industry guidelines, and is completed according to schedule and budgetary constraints.
+ Experience mentoring, coaching and managing the total competencies of engineering and technical staff, administering performance evaluations, conducting interviews, making recommendations to fill positions, and recommending and/or taking disciplinary actions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of six years progressive engineering experience including four years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification
May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
