This position functions as a Transportation Supervisor II for the Haywood bridge maintenance unit. Primary responsibilities include planning and scheduling bridge inspection and repair activities, assigning crews and equipment to specific bridge-related tasks, and determining the necessary resources, including materials and traffic control needs. The supervisor is responsible for overseeing the work of bridge maintenance crews in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with safety standards, structural specifications, and departmental guidelines.
Additional duties include reviewing and verifying work reports submitted by subordinates to account for time, materials, equipment usage, and the condition of the bridges maintained. The role involves responding to reports of bridge deficiencies or damage, conducting routine inspections, and developing repair strategies. The supervisor communicates policy updates, procedural changes, and safety standards to all employees and plays a key role in interviewing and recommending personnel for hire.
Other responsibilities include maintaining daily logs and required documentation, conducting regular safety meetings/audits, and managing inventory such as structural steel, timber, repair material, tools, etc. This position also involves coordinating and overseeing force account bridge repair or minor rehabilitation projects, ensuring that expenditures and progress remain aligned with budgetary constraints and established work plans.

Additional Expectations:
Direct, assist and train subordinate employees. Maintain accurate records of work accomplished. Possess basic math skills. Ability to communicate, establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, management and the general public. Ability to work in extreme temperatures and uneven terrain conditions for extended periods of time. Ability to respond and work in emergency call situations and inclement weather. Operate state vehicle. Safety toed shoes required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and seven years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
