    The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is currently seeking candidates for the position of Dental Assistant 2 at Georgia Regional Hospital - Atlanta, located in Decatur, GA.

     

    Salary: $33,968.48

     

    Job Grade: D

    Job Description:

    Assists the dentist and/or hygienist in chair side dentistry. Prepares dental instruments. May perform administrative duties.

    Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

    • Assists dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies

    • Cleans and polishes removable appliances

    • Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays

    • Instructs a client in oral hygiene and plaque control programs

    • Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts

    • Pours, trims, and polishes study casts

    • Prepares clients, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures

    • Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by dentist

    • Records treatment information in client records

    • Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of clients.

    Sample Technical Competencies:

    Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, and instruments

     

    Knowledge of X-ray equipment and ability to operate equipment safely and effectively

     

    Ability to use appropriate cleaning and sterilization procedures and methods

     

    Ability to keep accurate dental records

     

    Ability to perform life saving techniques (CPR, AED).

    High School diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in a dental setting; or Vocational/Technical degree in dental assisting from an accredited college and six (6) months of experience as a dental assistant, or one (1) year experience at the lower level Dental Asst 1 (HCS010) or position equivalent.
