    Job Title: Utility TechnicianJob Description

     

    We are currently seeking a Utility Technician to join our team, offering professional, engineering, and technical services to the telecommunications and power delivery markets. The role involves supporting our services, including Communications Design, Energy Distribution, Utility Pole Inspection, and Environmental Services.

    Responsibilities

    + Acquire field data for OSP Aerial design with supervision.

    + Perform utility pole maintenance, including remedial treatments and the application of wood-preserving chemicals.

    + Manage utility pole assets using web-based mapping and GPS data collection.

    + Conduct visual inspections of utility poles, noting damage and missing hardware.

    + Utilize an iPhone or iPad to update inspection lists.

    + Perform a 360-degree walk-around inspection and sound the pole with a hammer to detect hollowness.

    + Inspect the ground line by scooping out dirt and examining wood below the ground line.

    + Drill into the base of poles to assess decay.

    + Provide insecticides if licensed.

    Essential Skills

    + 9+ months of utility pole inspection experience.

    + Comfortable with national travel for projects, relocating every 3-4 months.

    + Ability to work sun up to sun down, including 10-hour days Monday to Friday and half-days on Saturdays.

    + Experience walking in rough terrain in all weather conditions.

    + Proficient in using iPad or similar technology for data entry.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Ability to be away from home for extended periods.

    + Experience inspecting 40-60 poles a day.

    + Strong communication skills with lead and team.

    + Good references for quality of inspections and attendance.

    + Willingness to work in rural areas and travel nationally.

    Work Environment

    The position is 100% field-based, working in rural areas inspecting utility poles. The role involves national travel, with projects typically lasting 3-4 months in one location before moving to the next. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from sun up to sun down, with optional work on Saturdays. You will work in all weather conditions, with a mandatory week off between projects and a layoff period from December to March. The role includes a company truck, cell phone, and iPad, with hotel accommodations and a daily per diem provided.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr.
