Job Title: Machinist
Job Description
This role involves setting up and operating machines within the High Performance Cell, including Swiss style turning centers, 4 station rotary cutting and end work machines, and 10 station rotary turning/milling machines. Given the complex nature of products manufactured in the CNC department, setup and related tooling are critical components of the process. This position focuses on troubleshooting and machine setup, allowing operators to concentrate on increasing output and achieving quality standards.
Responsibilities
+ Pre-stage tooling ahead of machines running out current job.
+ Support pre-staging of materials in coordination with operator, programmer, and Area Lead.
+ Ensure safe setting of all equipment and relevant tooling in the CNC machining area.
+ Support training of production operators in safe and efficient machine operation.
+ Suggest improvements to the process regarding SMED, throughput, and standardizing machine practices.
+ Enhance 5S standards in the area, particularly around tooling storage and staging.
+ Assist in DVC and cost reduction initiatives.
+ Participate in testing of inserts, tooling, and materials.
+ Review tooling prior to storage.
+ Adhere to all departmental and company safety rules/procedures.
+ Receive instructions, material requirements, prints, routings, and work orders for the job.
+ Convey supervisor’s instructions to operators or provide direction in the absence of the supervisor.
+ Collaborate with direct and indirect labor personnel to ensure availability and staging of raw materials, parts, and tooling for uninterrupted production.
+ Provide operational and troubleshooting assistance to machine operators.
+ Set up and operate equipment as required.
+ Utilize measuring instruments like scales, calipers, and micrometers proficiently.
+ Perform inspections to ensure product quality standards.
+ Identify non-conforming products, worn tooling, and machine conditions.
+ Complete and forward required paperwork and records.
+ Attend meetings as required.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in machine setup and operation.
+ Proficiency in tool change and CNC machine operations.
+ Ability to program using Mastercam, G code, and M code.
+ Blueprint reading skills.
+ Troubleshooting and mechanical skills.
+ Proficient in using measuring instruments like scales, calipers, and micrometers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with Mazak machines.
+ Knowledge of SMED and throughput improvement processes.
+ Understanding of 5S standards and cost reduction initiatives.

Work Environment
Work in a manufacturing machine shop with shifts available from 6 AM to 6 PM or 6 PM to 6 AM, operating in a clean and organized facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Morristown, Tennessee.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $19.00/hr.
