    Job Summary

    The Patient Transporter 1 safely transports patients, belongings, records, and equipment courteously and promptly using wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and carts.

    Essential Functions of the Role

    + Safely transports patients and their belongings, medical records, charts, and equipment to various areas.

    + Maintains a friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients, and co-workers.

    + Safely moves patients with traction, IVs, drainage apparatus, oxygen, and other encumbrances.

    + Provides emergency help to patients who become ill during transport until proper staff is notified and help arrives.

    + Verifies the proper patient identity by visually checking patient identification or verifying with nursing staff.

    + When transporting a cardiac-monitored patient, an RN will accompany the patient unless the patient meets criteria for nurse-guided removal of cardiac monitoring for inpatient transport. The RN stays with the patient unless a licensed nurse takes over monitoring. The RN watches for changes in patterns and calls for help when needed.

    + Notifies dispatcher of the status of assigned duties and proceeds as instructed.

    + Champions overall safety in the department. Reports possible safety issues and recommends changes. Complies with OSHA and other regulations.

    + Dresses in designated uniform and adheres to proper hygiene when reporting to work and performing job duties.

    + Transports bodies to the morgue and ensures that proper documentation is completed.

    + Ability to use appropriate communication equipment, operate wheelchairs, hospital beds, and stretchers.

    + Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both through speech and in writing.

    + Able to give consistent excellent customer service with empathy, patience, and confidence.

    + Able to know about the customer’s point of view and take ownership of creating a solution to their issues.

    + Relational skills required to interact effectively with patients and staff.

    + Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    + EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

    + EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience

    CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

    + Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 Days of Hire or transfer.
