As an Automation Engineer, you will be a vital member of our team, responsible for the design, configuration, and commissioning of programmable logic controller (PLC) based control systems. You will support the operation of automated industrial process monitoring systems and continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS). This role involves participation in the initial design process and providing hands-on technical oversight of systems configuration, testing, and subsequent integration at customer sites. The position requires up to 25% travel to support integration, commissioning, and system training at customer sites. Responsibilities
+ Maintain and improve existing PLC ladder logic programs for Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and ControlLogix PLC-based monitoring systems.
+ Maintain and improve Allen-Bradley Human-Machine Interface (HMI) to allow end-user interface with PLCs.
+ Configure and support communications gateway devices to allow command and control between field devices and PLCs.
+ Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing of completed products and/or systems prior to shipment to client sites.
+ Assist with onsite installation, startup, and commissioning activities at industrial locations.
+ Contribute to ongoing improvements in design and operation of monitoring systems, instruments, controls, and metering and electrical equipment installed at customer facilities.
+ Provide communications and control system support and troubleshooting for internal and external customers.
+ Troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and support equipment, control, and metering problems and take appropriate action to correct deficiencies.
+ Maintain records of readings and test results for all assigned equipment.
+ Perform all work according to logic diagrams, electrical and mechanical drawings, sketches, and other written instructions.
Essential Skills
+ In-depth knowledge of PLC programming using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 Logix Designer software for ControlLogix and CompactLogix processors.
+ In-depth knowledge of hardware-based HMI development using Allen-Bradley PanelView brand panels.
+ In-depth knowledge of digital and analog process signal measurement and control as they relate to programmable logic controllers.
+ Working knowledge of Open Platform Communications (OPC) software.
+ Working knowledge of Ethernet communications protocols such as TCP/IP, MODBUS, etc.
+ Working knowledge of wiring techniques for analog and digital PLC communications modules.
+ Ability to communicate technical concepts with vendors, internal staff, and end-users using written and verbal skills.
+ Ability to work in a team-oriented environment to achieve team and company goals.
+ Ability to complete projects on time and within established budgets.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with Microsoft SQL and SQL Server software.
Work Environment
The work environment involves engineering systems from our NC office. If there are new assemblies, the day-to-day work would be project kickoff to determine specifications, followed by the engineer's responsibility for the controls piece of that. You will set up a new PLC from scratch, dump the logic to the PLC, and configure the control from the application. Ensure that changes are tracked and accurate. While much of the work can be done remotely, you need to be in the office for the commissioning piece. Approximately 60-70% of the work on average can be delivered remotely.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
