Job Title: Electrical Controls Engineer
Job Description
An excellent opportunity for an Electrical Controls Engineer to join a worldwide manufacturer of industrial equipment. The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of new, and upgrade/retrofit of existing intelligent systems and industrial controls. This position will report to the Engineering Manager and will be responsible for designing and programing new electrical control systems along with supporting existing systems.
Responsibilities
+ Produce electrical engineering documentation such as schematic drawings and harness drawings.
+ Design electrical controls, including their operation and troubleshooting manuals.
+ Provide support to the production team by creating, modifying, and troubleshooting industrial machinery/equipment.
+ Assist with the installation of electrical controls in both new and existing equipment.
+ Develop, troubleshoot, and install control programs for PLCs.
+ Identify and implement design improvement projects aimed at reducing costs and improving product development.
+ Assure product quality by designing electrical testing methods and testing finished machinery and system capabilities.
+ Establish system requirements, design to those requirements, and validate that the system meets the requirements.
+ Work to project timelines and within budget targets; manage tasks to ensure schedules are met and complete documentation per process and standard work.
+ Support existing machinery in production, including cost reductions, new features, and manufacturing improvements.
+ Identify new electrical technologies, validate performance and application potential, and establish a network to maintain awareness of relevant technology.
+ Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
+ 5+ years' experience in electrical engineering creating or modifying industrial machinery/equipment.
+ Advanced understanding of engineering principles and tools including circuit design, PLC programming, controls standards, signal processing, circuit and system modeling, properties of materials, mechanical stress, and system reliability.
+ Proficiency in PLC control system design, particularly with MicroLogix and similar PLCs.
+ Experience creating electrical drawings and panel layouts in AutoCAD.
+ Experience with UL 508A panel design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with machine/systems integration in food processing, packaging design, automation, and conveyor systems.
+ Proficiency in using AutoCAD Electrical.
+ Familiarity with P&ID.
Work Environment
The role involves working with heavy equipment and large machinery, primarily office-based with some travel domestically and internationally alongside Commissioning Engineers. The Electrical Controls Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and be part of a team with two other Electrical Engineers and five Mechanical Engineers. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with occasional overtime. Approximately 25% travel is required, mostly within the U.S., with occasional international trips.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
