Newtown Savings Bank is seeking an accounting professional to join our Finance team in the role of Junior Accountant. The Junior Accountant assists the Controller with journal entries, reconciliations, research, and reporting. This is an onsite opportunity at our Corporate office in Newtown, CT. This role has remote option of one day per week.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a multi-incumbent position. Included below are the areas of responsibilities that are shared between those in this role. Some responsibilities might be designated to one person as the primary and the other as the back-up.
+ Responsible for the Bank’s reconciliation matrix, ensuring all balance sheet accounts are reconciled in accordance with policy. Report status of reconciliations and aging of reconciling items to the Controller and CFO monthly.
+ Responsible for reconciling assigned General Ledger accounts.
+ Responsible for preparing and posting journal entries.
+ Serve as an operator for the daily balancing of correspondent bank accounts and reconciliation of ACH related accounts as necessary. Responsible for both reconciling these accounts and researching outstanding items.
+ Assist with the preparation of the Bank’s financial reporting, including the quarterly Call Report.
+ Assist Controller in performing ad-hoc financial analyses upon request of Senior Management.
+ Responsible for the quarterly gathering, consolidation, and reporting of the Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for the quarterly supplements to the Board report.
+ On a daily basis balance all system applications, including application settlement, exception reports, and un-posted accounts, to the Bank’s General Ledger. Follow up with branches and other operating departments to resolve problems encountered.
+ Act as backup for various other accounting functions. (i.e. Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, and Prepaid Assets)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance and one to two years of experience (internships considered), preferably in the banking/financial services industry; or other combinations of education and experience.
+ Computer skills are required with proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office Products.
+ Experience with automated general ledger system is beneficial.
