    Job Description Summary:

    The Point of Care Testing Coordinator is responsible for the operations of laboratory testing performed in areas other than the main laboratory. Responsibilities include equipment evaluation and selections; training and certification of staff; monitoring of quality control, proficiency testing and quality assurance; preparation of procedure manual; and compliance with deferral, state and local regulations and voluntary standards. Examples of areas when alternate site testing occurs: Nursing units, physician offices, health centers, McConnell Heart Health Centers, Outpatient Surgery Center, Family Practice, and Work Health. This position also consults on issues of Point of Care Testing to any OhioHealth facility and any community health facility.

    Responsibilities And Duties:

    25% Oversees performance of procedures in locations other than main laboratory; Recommends which procedures should be performed. Evaluates and selects in collaboration with main laboratory manager and director equipment needed to perform procedure, maintaining high level of quality in the most cost-effective manner. Coordinates and standardizes approaches between individual sites. Prepares written technical procedures for each test. Assists with development of appropriate lab tests.

     

    15% Prepares training program assures training and certification of testing staff occurs as required. Monitors staff performance according to established guidelines.

     

    35% Responsible for the completion of quality control and proficiency testing programs and for integration of activities with similar programs in central laboratories. Monitors and reviews programs and instrument maintenance records. Works in collaboration with Quality Assurance Coordinator and lab management to establish ongoing monitoring system for continuous quality improvement.

     

    20% Monitors and assures compliance of point of care testing regulations both procedural and safety as stipulated by federal, state, and local standards CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, CLIA, and COLA

     

    5%Provides reports to laboratory managers, directors, process improvement teams, and others as appropriate. Serves on laboratory process improvement and JCAHO readiness committee.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree (Required)ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology - American Society for Clinical Pathology

    Additional Job Description:

    SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

    Degree from four-year college or university, in Medical Technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by the Board of registry of the A. S. C. P. Experience in evaluation of equipment or methods and principles of quality control and clinical correction of data. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of regulatory standards of accrediting agencies of CAP, JCAHO, CLIA and COLA. service oriented with demonstrates abilities in leadership role. 5 yrs. in large tertiary care hospital with demonstrated interpersonal, and communication skills.
