    The West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community-based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each p erson.  WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing for low- income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness.   WSFSSH is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE)

    Job Summary

    Under the supervision of the Clinical coordinator in conjunction with the Food service director, the Head Cook is responsible for the Supervision of the meal program, food preparation, clean-up, and meal distribution.

     

    What you’ll do

    Equipment and Sanitation

    + Comply with all applicable state and city regulations regarding food storage, food preparation, and maintenance of kitchen prep areas, kitchen equipment, food storage room and dining room.

    + Maintain sanitary, organized conditions in all food preparation, food serving, and food storage areas

    Meal Planning

    + Follow posted menu. Serve balanced and nutritional meals consisting of a protein , starch, non-starchy vegetable and a fruit for dessert.

    + Request kitchen tested recipes from dietitian if not available on-site.  Recipes on-site should correlate to the planned menus for the meal program.

    O rdering

    + Ordering of all food from contracted reputable vendors.

    + Maintain monthly food budget.

    + Maintain sufficient inventory of food, utensils and supplies to assure adequate stock exists for meal preparation.

    F ood P reparation

    + Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of meals and arrange appetizing and complete presentation of standard meal portions

    Other

    + Work as a member of a team to establish and maintain high level of care and respect for the residents

    + Work cooperatively with other staff members

    + Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with other staff

    + Attend training sessions and conferences as required for enhancement of job skills

    + Implement emergency procedures as necessary

    + Submit all required reports in a complete and timely manner

    + Assist with other duties as directed

    What you’ll need :

    + Minimum of 2-year experience in a kitchen(s) preparing/serving 25 persons or more.

    + Must have a valid Food protection certification from the NYC Department of Health and mental hygiene.

    + Experience with supervision and food ordering preferred.

    + Must be able to lift 25lbs.

    + Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

    + At least 18 years of age.

    + Able to speak, read, and write English (as required by DSS regulation 487.9.13)
