    Law Enforcement Instructor

     

    The Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) is seeking applicants for the position of Law Enforcement Instructor. This position will require collaboration and instruction with multiple training programs. This position works closely with the Director and management team to support the Academy mission.

     

    Applicants must display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment toward completing tasks efficiently, demonstrating proficiency and attention to detail.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Provide training and instruct classes at the Academy, in the field and through the use of any electronic media to ensure reception by recruits/certified officers of accepted principles, theories and techniques.

    + Responsible for developing, planning, updating, and implementing training materials, course outlines, lesson plans and performance objectives for courses being taught.

    + Provide instruction at in-service and specialty school training for law enforcement officers and agencies across the state of Iowa.

    + Coordinate and collaborate with other agencies and disciplines involved in investigating, preventing, or researching law enforcement topics for the classroom. Participate in joint training sessions with other agencies in planning, organizing and researching relevant sources to ensure a high quality of training is disseminated to recruits.

    + Administer exams. Counsel and provide guidance to recruits in the areas of the instructor's proficiency. Correspond with law enforcement officers and agencies in response to questions or problems; coordinate agency visits for recruit progress reports. Assist other instructors in the evaluation of recruits. Provide supervision, discipline, and structure for the Academy recruits.

    + Miscellaneous duties as assigned to perform. Essential Functions of the Position Include:

    + Provide training and instruct classes at the Academy and in the field

    + Develop, plan, update, and implement training materials, course outlines, lesson plans and performance objectives for courses being taught

    + Provide instruction at in-service and specialty school training for law enforcement across the state of Iowa

    + Coordinate and collaborate with other agencies and disciplines involved in investigating, preventing, or researching law enforcement topics for the classroom

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + ILEA Firearms Instructor Endorsement,

    + ILEA Precision Driving Instructor Endorsement,

    + ILEA Defensive Tactics Instructor Endorsement, and

    + Knowledge and training in various use of force applications

     

    ILEA is currently hiring for two Law Enforcement Instructors.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

    1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to three years of full-time work as a certified peace officer in a law enforcement agency or program, civilian jailer, jail trainer, jail administrator, or correctional officer in a jail, holding facility, prison, or correctional institution, dispatcher, dispatch trainer, dispatch supervisor/administrator, nurse (RN or LPN), EMS paramedic, or other closely-related emergency medical services provider.

     

    2) A total of seven years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

    3) All of the following (a, b, and c):

    a. One year of full-time work experience in as a certified peace officer in a law enforcement agency or program, civilian jailer, jail trainer, jail administrator, or correctional officer in a jail, holding facility, prison, or correctional institution, dispatcher, dispatch trainer, dispatch supervisor/administrator, nurse (RN or LPN), EMS paramedic, or other closely-related emergency medical services provider; and

    b. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience; and

    c. A total of two years of graduate-level education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
