    The Modal Transportation Bureau/Public Transit Team is seeking aPublic Transit Grants Managerto manage, monitor, and close out public transit grants with the Federal Transit Administration. This work is critical to providing efficient public transit in Iowa and to accomplish the Iowa DOT’s Mission:Making Lives Better Through Transportation.

     

    The person selected for this position will demonstrate actions and behaviors guided by the Iowa Department of Transportation’s five CORE values:Safety First, People Matter, Customer Focused, Servant Leadership, and Integrity Without Exception.

     

    The Public Transit Team: This position is a key member of the Public Transit Team and plays a vital part in ensuring transit agencies receive and complete funding contracts to support public transportation services throughout Iowa. We are an eight-member team that is part of our 25-member Modal Transportation Bureau. The Public Transit Grants Manager is our lead person to track, monitor, and close out grants that have been awarded to public transit agencies in Iowa. The Grants Manager is the Drug and Alcohol testing specialist and the Department’s Civil Rights specialist for public transit programs.

    Your duties will involve, but are not limited to:

    + Serve as Grants Manager for all the department’s approved grants from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

    + Responsible for monitoring the implementation progress of all transit assistance projects underway with public transit agencies in Iowa.

    + Preparing grant status reports required by the Federal Transit Administration.

    + Serve as Drug and Alcohol Testing Specialist for the department’s public transit programs, providing and arranging training on federal requirements and monitoring transit agency programs.

    + Serve as Civil Rights Specialist for the department’s public transit programs, including developing and securing approval of the department’s annual Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) goal for transit

    + Preparing status reports on DBE and Civil Rights Title VI.

    + Providing input and back-up support for a wide variety of public transit-related functions within the Department.

     

    Location : Ames, Iowa

     

    Shift Requirements : Days, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with flextime available. Some overnight travel may be required.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

    Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

    + Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to four years of full-time work in professional transportation planning*/engineering.

    + Licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board.

    + Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work as a Transportation Planner 1.

    * "Transportation planning" includes preparing planning contracts and grants; managing planning grant application submittals and project development; preparing functional classification appeals; developing travel demand models and traffic forecasts; creating cartographic representations and data collection applications; analyzing transportation data, project plans, and reports to identify problems; developing portions of statewide transportation plans; or conducting/coordinating transportation research projects.
