    Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

     

    + Provides overall leadership and direction for the paraprofessional department, ensuring ongoing oversight and management of day-to-day operations and activities and effective selection, development and performance management of paraprofessional staff, in alignment with the school’s mission and operational needs.

    + Promotes YAI and school’s visions, missions and goals by providing leadership and guidance to staff and ensuring student well-being through safe and appropriate paraprofessional supports in line with agency philosophy, department practices and Federal, State, Local and regulatory requirements.

    + Leads the planning, development and implementation of operating procedures and related policies and systems to address new or changing operational needs and regulatory or other requirements in collaboration with supervisor and leadership of other departments, as applicable.

    + Directly supervises paraprofessional supervisors assigned to oversee staff supporting a division of the school, providing support and guidance for meeting operational needs of the division and ensuring consistent application and enforcement of school policies, procedures and productivity standards through appropriate management of concerns or performance issues, including discussions and plans for corrective actions, as needed.

    + Provides ongoing support and feedback to paraprofessional supervisors to ensure the provision of individualized, quality supports for each student by paraprofessional staff which conforms to best practices and applicable standards while engaging students to encourage full participation in academic and therapeutic activities to develop skills and achieve their goals.

    + Ensures appropriate assessment and management of performance of paraprofessional staff, monitoring time and attendance and fostering professional development of paraprofessionals by supervisors through regular supervision, training and mentoring.

    + Regularly collaborates with Education, Related Services and other departments and school leadership to ensure appropriate continuity of services and supports for students and escalates concerns regarding individual students or supports, as applicable.

    + Evaluates and monitors paraprofessional-related needs across the school in collaboration with applicable department leadership (education, behavior/student support, related services, etc.), ensuring teachers and classrooms of each school division are receiving necessary supports and identifies unmet needs, trends, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement, proposing and overseeing implementation of solutions and corrective measures.

    + Plans and monitors staffing, scheduling and coverage needs schoolwide in collaboration with leadership team, ensuring paraprofessional supervisors are maintaining appropriate and safe levels of coverage and supports in classrooms, during related or support services, meals, arrivals, dismissals or other activities and assigning appropriate responsibilities to properly trained paraprofessional staff.

    + Ensures sufficient levels of paraprofessional staff to support operational needs, participating in the hiring process and interviews of paraprofessionals as needed, approving offers of employment and ensuring appropriate engagement and training of newly hired staff by supervisors.

    + Identifies opportunities and recommends initiatives to increase engagement and retention of paraprofessional staff in collaboration with supervisor and YAI support departments (HR, Communications and Marketing, etc.), leading design and implementation of approved programs and initiatives and continuously evaluating success.

    + Facilitates and communicates changes in scheduling and reassignments in collaboration with paraprofessional supervisors and other department leadership to support changes in operational needs across divisions on an ongoing basis.

    + Ensures paraprofessional supervisors are appropriately managing and submitting changes in Workday for staff status, work hour, promotions/demotions, transfers and/or other adjustments in a timely manner and reporting incidents or other occurrences accordingly; initiates changes or reports on behalf of supervisors when needed or applicable.

    + Monitors to ensure that timekeeping records and approvals through Workday for paraprofessional staff are completed accurately and on a timely basis by supervisors to support payroll processing; assists supervisors with attendance, work hour and/or time tracking concerns, including coordination of discussions, resolutions and plans for corrective actions with supervisors.

    + Identifies, plans and/or facilitates ongoing professional development opportunities and related trainings, meetings or workshops to engage paraprofessional staff and support attainment of knowledge and skills and an increased understanding of various supports and interventions that improve outcomes for students and/or support growth of paraprofessionals in their roles, careers or within the school.

    + Ensures appropriate education and training opportunities for paraprofessional staff, including arranging for and/or developing training to address internal policies and procedures and student or support-specific trainings from other departments relating to feeding, behavior, communications, assistive technology and other supports or plans.

    + Develops and maintains an awareness and understanding of the school’s vision, mission, policies and procedures and remains aware of changes in student supports, plans and interventions and any applicable Federal, State or Local regulations; participates in agency or education-related or other committees, conferences and/or seminars.

    + Actively participates in regularly scheduled leadership meetings, collaborating with applicable school leadership to plan and facilitate schoolwide events, activities, parent trainings and/or fundraisers and provides support for schoolwide projects or initiatives, as directed.

    + Provides coverage for paraprofessional supervisors in their absence and may provide coverage in classrooms or for events, if needed.

    + May communicate directly with families regarding staffing changes and/or to address specific inquiries or concerns and/or participate in resolutions by coordinating with other departments, as applicable.

    + Complies with and ensures compliance with all Federal, State, Local and other relevant regulatory agency requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and maintains confidentiality requirements and protection of other sensitive employee and student data.

    + Performs all other duties, as assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in education, human services or related area; and

    + Five (5) years of relevant experience performing administrative oversight and supervision of staff, preferably supervising multiple teams in an educational setting; or

    + Satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training.

    + Exceptional supervisory and leadership skills and ability to effectively manage, coach, direct and support paraprofessional supervisors and their teams through hands-on support.

    + Familiarity with Federal, State, Local and oversight agency regulations relating to special education and the ability to locate and research relevant regulations and information, when needed.

    + Familiarity with supports needed in an educational setting for health and safety-related needs of neurodivergent students and/or students with severe and multiple disabilities.

    + Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with school staff, families and other stakeholders at varying levels.

    + Strong planning, organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines while quickly addressing changing needs and operational issues to ensure appropriate supports are in place.

    + Proficiency with computers and using electronic systems including email, Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce and/or Workday (or other related systems) to complete tasks.

    + Ability to report on-site to school on a regular basis and occasionally travel across New York City metropolitan area to visit headquarters, schools, attend meetings and/or conferences.

    + Ability to meet essential physical demands of position including frequent walking, sitting, standing pulling and reaching with hands and arms; using hands to handle, finger or feel objects, tools or controls; and bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing as needed, having the physical capacity to work with and implement emergency interventions as per student’s Behavior/Student Support Plan if needed including lifting/moving individuals of any weight with or without assistance of equipment and/or other staff or running and/or lifting if needed.

     

    Preferred Qualification Requirements (desired requirements beyond MQRs above)

     

    + Master’s degree in education, human services or related area

    + Experience providing support to the full employee life cycle (e.g. recruiting, on-boarding, training, termination)

     

    Compensation: $ 105,000-$125,000 Annually
