    This position will serve as the 4-H Activities Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County and will provide program coordination and support to the 4-H Program. This position will provide direction, organization, coordination, and management of all aspects of the assigned 4-H Youth Development Programs, to include, but not be limited to: East Meadow Farm 4-H Programs, the Long Island County Fair, the New York State Fair, and other 4-H Educational Programs administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County. This position will organize and coordinate activities relating to county and state fair; coordinate all aspects of the 4-H enrollment and reporting process; provide administrative assistance in the recruitment of new 4-H clubs and groups in Nassau County; coordinate 4-H fundraising and trips; coordinate clubs/committee meetings to ensure that all animal and non-animal 4-H clubs and committees meet on a regular basis; and serve as an accessible resource to program volunteers, including providing orientation and ongoing support and follow-up, to ensure initial and continued 4-H Club success. This position will utilize existing program resources and materials in program work and will deliver educational programs as defined.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of transferrable program/functional experience).

    + Experience relevant to the role of the position.

    + Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

    + Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Demonstrated ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.

    + Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse audiences.

    + Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual means.

    + Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technologies for educational and communication purposes.

    Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

    Program Responsibilities:

    Program Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research - 30%

     

    + Utilize established program resources and materials in providing information and resources to program participants in established 4-H programming.

    + Assist in teaching innovative, developmentally appropriate 4-H programming. Locations include but are not limited to the D.P.F. 4-H Camp, Long Island County Fair, the New York State Fair, East Meadow Farm, off site 4-H locations and other locations identified/needed to support the established Plan of Work.

    + Utilize all forms of mass media, including social media, for the innovative delivery of 4-H educational programs.

    + Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Youth and Family Program staff to achieve Association goals.

    + Implement program evaluation as designed.

    + Assist in the interaction of various constituencies to obtain their evaluation of programs.

    Administrative Responsibilities:

    Direction and Management - 20%

     

    + Assist Executive Director and other 4-H staff with limited-complexity administrative tasks in the planning of educational programs.

    + Provide input to assist in planning the delivery of established educational program goals and the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.

    + Assist the Executive Director with identifying, anticipating, recommending and planning for 4-H Club needs/supplies.

    + Provide administrative assistance in planning for mass media efforts.

    + With discretion, assist in the planning of effective strategic marketing and mass media efforts in the promotion of assigned 4-H Programs, public affairs, events and functions.

    + Provide 4-H Program related information to the staffing plan development process.

    + With the Supervisor assist in planning for annual marketing and advertising taking into account budget, reach and responses.

    + Promote strategies for creating safe, healthy and supportive environments for participants and staff

    + Provide guidance for the assigned 4-H Youth Development educational programs and program activities and ensure they conform to the Association’s Plan of Work. Educational Program and Program Activities will include, but not be limited to: Nassau County 4-H Programs, Long Island County Fair, New York State Fair and other 4-H Educational Programs.

    + Take corrective action to reduce risk and ensure a safe facility and program/camp management.

    + Ensure the documentation of critical events including but not limited to injuries and accidents.

    + Communicate with Supervisor to proactively address areas of concern.

    + Support volunteer management to include:

    + Recruitment activities of new 4-H Clubs and groups in Nassau County.

    + Providing volunteer orientation.

    + Serve as an accessible resource to volunteers by assisting with providing follow-up support to ensure initial and continued 4-H Club success.

    + Administer the daily schedule effectively, balancing activities and daily routines, ensuring adequate staff coverage and adjusting for weather-related or other.

    + Solve problems and resolve issues that arise utilizing appropriate policies and procedures, as needed.

    + Secure necessary operating permits from agencies including the NYS Department of Health. Actively participate in inspections and visits.

    + Meet quality standards of accreditation from the American Camp Association if necessary

    + Maintain good standings with the NYS and Nassau County Department of Health.

    + Manage off-season rentals and provide supervision as needed.

    + Manage in person and online camp store. Offer yearly swag sales.

    + Conduct staff interviews and make recommendations for hiring.

    + Providing guidance to program volunteers in accordance with established practices and procedures.

     

    Coordination/Operation - 45%

     

    + Work to provide or attend in-person and virtual open houses and marketing events.

    + Organize and coordinate activities and exhibits relating to county and state fair.

    + Coordinate all aspects of the 4-H enrollment and reporting process.

    + Assist with program evaluation to include: collecting evaluation and needs assessment data from program participants.

    + Coordinate club/committee meetings to ensure both animal and non-animal 4-H clubs and committees are meeting on a regular basis.

    + Coordinate 4-H fundraisers and trips.

    + Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.

    + Under the direction of the Executive Director, coordinate and assist with projects and outreach efforts as instructed with established Plan of Work.

    + Maintain external relationships with insurers; local police, fire and emergency medical units; inspectors and compliance officers on issues of health and safety.

    + Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.

    + Provide administrative support for the coordination and implementation of multi-media efforts in the promotion of programming.

    + Maintain staff training materials including but not limited to staff handbook.

    + Maintain inventory and maintenance logs for facilities, agency vehicles, supplies and office equipment.

    + Find tabling 4-H events to promote programs, job and other services offered by CCE and represent CCE-NC at these tabling events.

    + Draft communications and correspondence for review by Executive Director for eventual distribution as appropriate.

    + Organize and maintain the kitchen, pantry and storage areas to meet NYS and Suffolk County Department of Health standards when applicable.

    + Work with registration Software Company for training, set up, problem solving, reporting and general use.

    + Assist with statistical data with regard to sessions and programs for CCE and 4-H.

    + Write articles and success stories for newsletters, brochures and CCE program reporting.

     

    Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

     

    + In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

    + Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Health and Safety - Applies to all duties and functions

     

    + Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

    + Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

    + Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

    POSITION DETAILS:

    This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 100% FTE. The hourly rate for this position is $24.00 to $26.00 commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation and sick leave.
