About this Job
In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of software engineers to define, design, and deliver expanded financial services and product offerings as part of the CarMax retail space. You will work closely with technology, product, and our business partners to drive future growth and opportunities.
The Technology Manager’s primary responsibility is to partner with their business areas and provide technology solutions and services that help deliver CarMax’s strategic mission and plans. This position will direct and manage strategic planning, software development, implementation, administration, and maintenance for a large suite of application systems. This includes the development of long and short-term technology solutions that address business goals and deliver improved profitability, efficiency, and unrivaled associate and customer experience.
What you will do
Essential Job Responsibilities
+ Lead engineers in building financial product related capabilities by providing them with the resources, feedback, and a sounding-board to be successful in their roles balancing technical debt with a speed-to-delivery customer focused team
+ Identify high performing talent, gaps in talent, and recruit, train and develop associates to close those gaps
+ Mentor and develop future leaders in courageous leadership, associate development, and communication skills
+ Identify the appropriate goals for the team
+ Communicate the team’s vision to executive management while also providing guidance for the team to support the strategic direction
Other Job Responsibilities
+ Partner with business stakeholders, peer groups, the Technology management team, and key associates.
+ Present the vision to executive management while also providing guidance for the team to support the strategic direction.
+ Continue to grow one’s knowledge base and stay current with industry trends while also formulating a technology plan for each business area based on an in-depth understanding of the current business needs and their future direction.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
+ BS/BA degree - IT related, preferred
+ 5+ years of experience in Information Technology with 3+ years of application systems development and implementation
+ 3+ years’ experience managing direct reports
+ 3+ years of experience required leading software projects leveraging Agile practices, required
+ 3+ years of experience with financing and lending industry, preferred not required
+ 2+ years of experience with product catalog and pricing management, preferred not required

**Work Location and Arrangement:** This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA CarMax Technology Innovation Center or the Dallas, TX Technology Hub and will have a Hybrid work arrangement.
