The Senior Director of Market Access & Reimbursement is responsible for leading and implementing the overall US reimbursement strategy for Shockwave’s existing and future products. The individual has in-depth expertise in developing and implementing strategic and tactical reimbursement/market access initiatives in the US. A key focus of this position is pursuit of coding,
coverage and payment for Shockwave’s novel intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) therapy.
Candidates should have a consistent track record of success, including direct contributions in securing access for novel technologies, participation within the CMS rule making process, and a legacy of strategy development within the medical device market. Experience with influencing private payor coverage policies is required and, successful payor communication tools and messages is needed.
The role will also incorporate communication to, and with, third party payers, government entities
and other market access partners and trade associations. Strong capabilities in areas such as
influence, communication, collaboration and partnership working are critical to this position. The
individual is highly skilled at developing relationships and experience working with KOLs, physician
specialty societies, CMS and senior management. Reporting directly to the Vice President of
Market Access and Reimbursement, this person will be in a highly visible and critical role as we
launch new products and applications for IVL in the United States. Additional responsibilities include:
+ Strategic Access & Reimbursement: Lead and support access and reimbursement initiatives for current and future products in the US, including advocacy with KOLs, physician societies, and AMA on coding and RUC evaluation.
+ Market Access Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to secure payer coverage and reimbursement for IVL therapy, with a focus on Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
+ Team Leadership: Line management responsibility of US Reimbursement Team
+ Global Value Dossier: Build and refine global value dossiers for public and private coverage of key technologies and develop health technology assessments (HTAs) that align with payer needs.
+ Collaboration with Clinical & Medical Affairs: Partner to develop and publish cost-effectiveness data and research to support payer decisions and coverage.
+ Consultant & Project Management: Lead multiple global consultants and projects to support strategic access initiatives.
+ Market Access Educational Tools: Create & oversee educational/promotional materials for reimbursement & market access.
+ Global Access Support: Understand and anticipate global data requirements, supporting data development and value analyses relevant to diverse payer systems.
+ Policy & Rule Making: Monitor health policy and regulatory developments affecting reimbursement and collaborate with internal/external customers on access policies.
+ CMS Engagement: Engage proactively with the U.S. CMS rule-making process and collaborate on activities related to Medicare, State Medicaid, and U.S. Military Health initiatives.
+ Reimbursement Submissions: Lead preparations for submissions enabling timely access to novel technologies, including coding applications, coverage submissions, and HTA evaluations.
+ Practical Reimbursement Strategies: Develop and implement strategies to secure optimal reimbursement, with a focus on Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer groups.
+ HEOR Publication Planning: Contribute to the development and writing of clinical and economic outcomes research to support access strategies.
+ Partner Engagement & Education: Establish relationships with key partners, including government, physicians, hospitals, and payers, and lead awareness campaigns.
+ Value Messaging: Collaborate with cross-functional teams on economic value messaging to support product adoption.
+ Support Product Development & Strategic Pricing: Provide functional input to portfolio development and pricing strategies, ensuring market access needs are addressed.
+ Functional Representation & Upskilling: Participate in internal teams, present strategies aligned with business plans, and lead reimbursement support for key internal/external customers and partners.
+ Support Commercial Launch: Facilitate prior authorization processes, lead field team services, and ensure customers receive top-tier support.
+ External Landscape Monitoring: Analyze healthcare policy to ensure the environment supports product launches and pipeline technologies.
+ Internal Collaboration & Knowledge Development: Foster strong collaboration across departments and keep up to date on clinical trials to enhance health economic value messaging.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent is required; MBA or advanced degree is preferred
+ Minimum 15+ years of professional experience, with 7+ years of work experience in implantable medical device market access/reimbursement industry, with specific responsibility/experience in obtaining coding, coverage and payment for new therapies in the US healthcare system.
+ Previous experience in implantable medical device reimbursement, health economics and/or outcomes research and experience in commercialization of innovative medical devices
+ Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. healthcare systems including expertise in reimbursement pathway development and technology assessment processes.
+ Working knowledge of healthcare systems and market access in major global markets.
+ Experience working with/in CPT, HCPCS, RUC and CMS outpatient/inpatient preferred
+ Ability to effectively work and communicate across cultures and a breadth of functions/levels
+ Analytical competencies to structure complex issues, synthesize key points, communicate and present in an easily understandable manner
+ Strong organization and planning skills and self-motivated with excellent time management skills
+ Ability to grow with the organization and demonstrate a willingness to assume additional responsibilities over time
+ Competence and credibility to build relationships of trust with physicians and associated professional staff at clinical centers
+ Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with ability to lead and deliver on multiple concurrent projects, including management of multiple consultants.
+ Ability to interpret and integrate business strategies into actionable, beneficial reimbursement and outcomes planning initiatives.
+ Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including developing relationships at all levels in an organization and among influential external parties.
+ Ability to travel up to 20% is required

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.
