    At Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center, we provide a complete range of health care services to all residents and visitors of Kodiak Island.

     

    As a designated critical access hospital, we offer higher-level care to our island community. Our hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites and two intensive care beds. Additionally, our extended care facility Providence Chiniak Bay Elder House has 22 long-term care beds.

     

    Our hospital staff includes a mix of primary care doctors, surgeons and specialists in family practice, general practice, internal medicine, obstetrics and radiology.

    **The Role:** As the Director of Nursing, you'll be the driving force behind our strategic vision. Based in the vibrant city of Kodiak, you'll partner with our executive team and other key leaders to shape the future of healthcare in the region. This position has 99 total reports and will oversee: IP/ED, Surgical Services, Night House Supervisors, Caregiver Health, Nursing Education, Respiratory Therapy and Quality Project Coord.

    What You'll Do:

    + **Master Coordinator:** Establish and maintain plans for effective management of financial, human, material, and informational resources within nursing services departments. This includes preparing and operating the assigned departments/cost centers budget, including capital, personnel, and expense budgets, and establishing goals/objectives for assigned departments.

    + **Professional Role Model:** Serve as an inspirational role model for staff, demonstrating creativity, vision, insight, energy, and commitment. Support the pursuit of the organization's mission, adherence to its Core Values, and foster its operational and financial success in its service to those in need.

    + **Standards Leader:** Oversee the development, approval, and implementation of standards of nursing practice and delivery mechanisms which support acute care philosophies and licensing regulations.

    + **Strategic Collaborator:** Work closely with administration, physicians, and clinical representatives in developing the hospital’s mission, strategic plans, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans, and policy-making decisions. Act consistently with the accepted standards and values of continuing care services.

    + **Recruitment and Retention Advocate:** Develop, implement, and evaluate programs to promote recruitment, retention, development, and continuing education of nursing staff members and other staff as necessary to promote quality care delivery.

    + **Collaboration Champion:** Facilitate effective collaboration between nursing staff members, physicians, and other clinical practitioners. Establish and maintain formal and informal communication systems to support quality care delivery and consistent staff management.

    + **Quality Improvement Leader:** Participate in planning, promoting, and conducting hospital-wide quality monitoring and improvement actions, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Collaborate with the administrator, medical staff, and the Board in developing the medical center’s mission, strategic plans, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans, and policy decisions.

    + **Professional Development Advocate:** Engage in and assume leadership roles in professional organizations. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of current acute care trends and practices.

    + **Confidentiality and Rights Respecter:** Respect the rights of patients and employees, provide privacy, and maintain confidentiality.

    + **Patient-Centered Care Implementer:** Implement care/services that recognize the age/diversity-specific needs/issues of customers served.

    + **Competency Planner:** Complete competency plans for the assigned job and department.

    What You'll Bring:

    + **Educational Background:** Bachelor's Degree in BSN. A Master’s Degree in a Nursing-Related Field is preferred.

    + **Professional Experience:** 5 years of increasing operational responsibility in nursing, with at least 3 years as a Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, or Director of Nursing.

    + **Senior Leadership Experience:** Proven senior nursing administration experience.

    + **Clinical Collaboration:** Previous clinical nursing experience working with a Medical Director, physicians, committees, and departments.

    + **Alaska License:** Upon hire: Alaska Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed).

    + **Independence and Organization:** Ability to perform duties and responsibilities promptly and consistently with little direct supervision in planning and organizing work.

    + **Project and Communication Excellence:** Demonstrated excellence in project planning and implementation, with exceptional interpersonal, written, and communication skills, along with strong conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
