The primary purpose of this position is as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) and the sole enlisted aircrew member, to provide ground and flight training instruction for developing, upgrading, and evaluating the skills of loadmaster aircrew members; assist the pilot in the operation of the aircraft; perform traditional loadmaster duties, and perform related staff support duties Responsibilities Develop and provide technical loadmaster upgrade and proficiency training/instruction to Reserve aircrew members and Air Reserve Technician (ART) personnel. Assist the aircraft pilot in the operation of the aircraft by performing as the sole aircrew technician. Accomplish a wide variety of pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight loadmaster duties required by the nature of the aircraft assigned and/or the aircraft's specialized mission. Perform works as a meteorological technician to assist the Aerial Reconnaissance Officer (ARWO) and weather mission of the WC-130J. Perform staff work based on specialized knowledge of the unit's mission, assigned aircraft and the related programs to ensure safe and successful accomplishment of required training, assigned mission support and airlift support requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Air Reserve Technician Supplemental Qualification Polity dated August 2017. No specific length of experience is required. The qualifications of loadmasters in the Air Force are directly related to the completion of prerequisite training rather than years of experience. Applicants for all positions must have logged the minimum number of hours indicated below in the performance of Aircraft Loadmaster (instructor) duties. Flying Hour Requirements AIRCRAFT LOADMASTER (INSTRUCTOR) GS-2185-10: Must have been awarded or qualify for a Career Enlisted Aviator (CEA) Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) and a valid aviation service aeronautical order. Must be currently qualified as Instructor and have a minimum of 500 Total Military Flight Time. Must provide flight logs before entry on duty. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of systems and equipment associated with the cargo function, including operation of doors, loading ramps, cargo winches, restraint rail systems, and assigned passenger/cargo compartment systems, such as oxygen, lighting, interphone, auxiliary power unit, crew or passenger required items, and emergency procedures, evacuation routes and use of survival equipment. 2. Knowledge of the theory of weight and balance; shoring and restraint calculations, the use of charts and graphs and the skill to apply weight and balance factors in preparing load plans which will provide the optimum center of gravity for the aircraft; mathematics (algebra, geometry and calculus); aircraft refueling and cargo systems/ equipment; load planning; current flying directives, and applicable publications; border clearance requirements and forms; hazardous cargo handling and placement procedures; life support and passenger requirements; and egress /survival procedures. 3. Skill to direct crews in loading according to weight and balance factors, cargo destination, emergency jettison plans, and use of rigging extraction systems for aerial delivery mission. 4. Knowledge of the methods of instruction, aircrew training program requirements, procedures, and standards of performance; and skill to apply this knowledge in planning, developing and executing unit training/evaluation programs. 5. Knowledge of a wide variety of systems and components critical to the performance of the aircraft and the skill to perform pre-flight checks and inspections. Knowledge of and skill in applying the principles, procedures, requirements and work techniques of various models and basic operations and various analytical or meteorological instrumentation. 6. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to prepare lessons, documents and reports, present training/instruction, and brief passengers and crews. Ability to think clearly and analytically in a high stress environment. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Additional Information May be required to maintain flight examiner qualification. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass written and in-flight standardization/evaluation examinations to include random no-notice evaluations. Must attain and maintain mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level in the unit's assigned aircraft. The incumbent is exposed to physiological hazards of flight plus physical and psychological demands of routine lengthy missions (up to 14 hours durations), must work in confined, hazardous noise areas Is subject to inclement weather during ground operations and dangerous environmental conditions during flight, and may operate in austere location. Individuals on active duty may apply 120 days before separation date and should indicate in their application their military separation date.
