Position Overview:
The Chamber’s Center for National Security Policy is a dynamic and growing part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. We are looking for a passionate problem solver who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute to an established and expanding space and national security policy program. This individual will help develop and implement the center’s programs through policy analysis, development, and advocacy; research and writing; event coordination and execution; coalition building; and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of the space and national security policy community—including knowledge of current and emerging issues and industry and government stakeholders—and a desire to create first-class policies and programs to enable the center to drive policy in Washington and abroad. There are many opportunities to work with other Chamber policy teams and the broader policy community in Washington, D.C., and globally.
Responsibilities:
+ Work closely with center leadership to develop policy initiatives, programs, and member services to support key policy verticals, including the Space Industry Council and the Space Leadership Council, and associated groups in the defense and cyber policy areas.
+ Draft reports, memos, formal remarks and talking points, blogs, and other communications on space and national security policies and programs.
+ Oversee communications to members (e.g., draft invites, attend member meetings, and policy engagements).
+ Assist with policy programing, including for the Chamber’s Global Aerospace Summit.
+ Track information in the Federal Register for opportunities for the Chamber to provide input.
+ Serve as the main point of contact to synthesize member contributions to comment letters.
+ Write blogs and work with the Chamber Communications team to raise the profile of the space and national security programs.
+ Attend meetings, congressional hearings, and briefings and prepare summaries for internal and external use.
+ Respond to member company inquiries, help identify prospective members and support the center’s member engagement activities.
+ Manage engagement with the staff of senior U.S. government and foreign government officials.
+ Maintain CRM lists and congressional outreach.
+ Collaborate with the Chamber’s Events team (e.g., reserving rooms and planning events).
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ significant experience working on national security, defense, or space policy issues.
+ An understanding of the U.S. defense, aerospace, and/or space policy formulation process and issues relating to U.S. national security policy.
+ A team player with an intellectually curious mind, a sense of humor, and the ability to deal with ambiguity in decision-making situations.
+ Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
+ A positive and professional attitude and the ability to handle confidential information and exercise sound judgment to deftly interact with individuals at all levels.
+ Able to manage multiple short- and long-term priorities and thrive in a fast-paced, collegial environment.
+ Ability to balance the creation of new initiatives to align with available resources.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
+ Public policy, government relations, or international affairs/international security experience from work in Congress, the executive branch, trade associations, law firms, corporations, or other relevant entities is a bonus.
+ Familiarity with various AI applications/tools and CRM platforms is a plus.
