    Job Summary** **:

    The Audio Visual (AV) Design Engineer reports into the Stanford University IT Infrastructure AV Technologies Deployment team. This individual will work with stakeholders across the University and partner institutions to understand their vision for a vast range of venues e.g., huddle spaces, conference rooms, classrooms, multi-purpose event locations, auditoriums to develop and implement AV systems to meet their needs.

     

    The responsibilities center around client engagement, AV system consulting and design, implementation oversight, and ensuring the solution functions as intended, and meets the use cases for the venue. The AV Engineer solicits the needs and expectations of the client, creates the design, generates the technical drawings, prepares the equipment list, facilitates estimates for equipment and labor costs, and drafts the client proposal as inputs to the final statement of work. During the project, responsibilities include oversight for the installation and testing of the system, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and facilitating client acceptance of the system.

    Core Responsibilities

    + Consult with clients to determine AV requirements for the venue’s use cases

    + Develop and propose AV solutions based upon Stanford’s technology standards

    + Create the AV design and requisite artifacts e.g., artist renderings, CAD drawings, equipment lists, user documentation to describe the proposed solution in detail to include required audio, visual, and network systems

    + Review and validate the Bill of Materials for compliance with standards and ensure completeness of required components

    + Estimate level of effort and costs for equipment and labor

    + Partner with supporting AV deployment resources e.g., service manager, project managers, system programmers and administrators, field engineers, network engineers, voice communications engineers, vendors and third-party integrators to develop the proposal and complete the project deliverables per scope, budget and schedule commitments

    + Collaborate and coordinate with architects, facilities engineers, interior designers to understand dependencies, and ensure the AV system aligns with their requirements and scope of work

    + Define and document standard installation guidelines of AV equipment to meet the University IT’s standards and specifications

    + Develop/update AV standards to ensure solutions address the current needs of the University

    + Evaluate product and evaluate potential suppliers; and act as the primary subject matter expert

    + Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education & Experience** **:

    + Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience

    + In-depth experience in the analysis, design, implementation and support of large-scale AV projects

    + Proven successful track record planning and managing AV system projects, including ability to lead and mentor people resources.

    + Experience coordinating with AV vendors and integrators on design packages, programming and installation.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** **:

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical individuals.

    + Ability to remain calm, engage collaboratively and take action in ambiguous and stressful situations.

    + Analytical troubleshooting skills.

    Certifications and Licenses** **:

    + CTS, CTS-D Certifications preferred.

    Desired Qualifications

    + Equipment: Cisco, Samsung Commercial Displays, Shure MicroFlex (Dante), Extron Systems (NAV)

    + AV Systems Programming

    + Cisco Call Manager Device Configuration

    + Network design and configuration for AVoIP environments

    Physical Qualifications

    + Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks

    + Frequently sitting, grasping lightly/fine manipulation

    + Occasionally stand, walk, kneel, and/or crawl

    + Rarely climb e.g., ladders, scaffolds, twist, bend stoop, squat, reach or work above shoulders; lift, carry, push, pull objects that weigh up to or more 40 pounds

    + Must be able to occasionally crawl into tight spaces

    + Possess good visual acuity

    Working Conditions

    + May be exposed to electricity at greater than 240 volts, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA.

    The expected pay range for this position is $150,525 – $170,000 per annum.

     

    Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
