    What you'll do...

     

    We are seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Emissions Programs to join our Sustainable Retail team at Walmart. As a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our value chain. This role demands a prominent level of executive presence, strategic thinking, and business acumen to drive Walmart's sustainability goals and maintain our position as an industry leader.

    Responsibilities

    The Director of Emissions Programs will lead our strategy development and implementation of emissions reduction initiatives, integrating them across the global business. Specific duties include:

     

    + Strategic Leadership: Lead the strategic development, planning, and execution of our GHG emissions reduction initiatives with clear action plans to support Walmart's overarching sustainability goals. Monitor and assess external trends (innovation, economic shifts, regulatory, policy, etc..) changes impacting the business to guide decision-making.

    + Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and industry leaders to advance Walmart's emissions reduction objectives. Represent Walmart on key committees and with NGOs to influence industry standards and best practices.

    + Innovative Solutions: Identify promising innovations for emission reductions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 and develop plans to pilot and scale them at Walmart and in our value chain. Provide strategic guidance to internal teams to help them accelerate progress toward zero emissions in Walmart operations by 2040.

    + Performance Tracking: Automate and manage comprehensive emissions reduction tracking tools to report progress and translate data into actionable insights for leadership. Lead external reporting on scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions to relevant external entities. Prepare written and oral updates to senior leadership on progress.

    + Enterprise Risk Management: Contribute to enterprise risk assessments (including climate risk assessment), incorporating sustainability considerations into business decisions.

    + Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence senior leadership to enhance sustainability integration into business operations and decision-making processes.

    What You’ll Do

    + Strategy Development: Formulate and execute emissions reduction strategies across Walmart's value chain.

    + Progress Monitoring: Track, analyze, and report emissions performance, contributing to continuous improvement.

    + External Representation: Represent Walmart's sustainability interests and positions with key external stakeholders and standard committees.

    + Innovation Leadership: Spearhead the adoption of innovative technologies and approaches to drive emissions reduction.

    + Capability Building: Identify emission reduction opportunities and develop and lead initiatives to build capacity within Walmart and in our value chain to achieve them.

    + Support Teams: Provide targeted support to relevant teams, ensuring alignment with Walmart’s sustainability goals.

    Skills and Competencies

    + Strong business acumen and strategy development: Ability to understand business drivers, identify opportunities for emissions reductions that also create business value, and integrate sustainability strategies into core business functions.

    + Strategic communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex sustainability strategies to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.

    + Results-oriented project management. Record of accomplishment of leading portfolio of initiatives at pace to deliver impact.

    + Influence skills: Ability to influence across a matrixed organization; proven record of accomplishment of navigating complex organizational structures and building strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Experience in partnering with external organizations (such as NGOs) and industry leaders.

    + Team leadership: Proven ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing, cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

    Requirements

    + Expertise: Subject matter expertise in emissions reductions (Scope 1,2, and/or 3), preferably in retail and/or product value chains.

    + Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, sustainability, or business (master's degree preferred).

    + Experience: Preferred 10 years of experience in sustainability or a related field, with a proven track record of successful large business transformation, change management and action plans.

    + Knowledge: Strong understanding of emissions mitigation strategies (Scope 1,2, and 3) and emerging sustainability trends.

    + Communication Skills: Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across the organization and industry.

    + Travel: Ability to travel as needed (up to 10% of the time).

    Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities.     The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
