    Job Overview and Responsibilities:

    **The Director of Shop Overhaul and Tooling Engineering** is responsible for the UA component and rework/remanufacturing shops as well as the Tooling Engineering team. This responsibility includes component repairs, robotic programming, tooling design and process/policy management for these engineering teams. This is a multi-functional engineering team with expertise in repair development, material processing, metallurgy, microstructural analysis, and rapid development of tooling for line/base maintenance, and shop applications. This role requires the coordination of efforts across Technical Operations to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient resolution to operational needs as well as maintaining up to date Engineering Procedures through ownership of GMMs and Standard Operating Procedures as well as leading shop standardization and optimization initiatives across UA internal component shops.

    + This position is based in either San Francisco or Houston.

    + Traveling up to 30% is required. Team members are based in San Francisco, Houston, and India.

    + Support outside of normal working hours for our 24/7 operation may be required.

     

    Safety and compliance

     

    Ensure that all shop and tooling engineering processes and procedures meet United and Federal Aviation Regulation requirements.

     

    Shops and Operational Support

     

    Provide technical support to the San Francisco and Houston based component shop to disposition hardware, substantiate repairs, define engineering requirements for rework/remanufacturing needs and develop required tooling to accomplish required component overhaul work. Provide AOG line and base maintenance support as required determined by operational needs.

     

    Team Development

     

    Mentor and develop the team to grow talent and technical expertise across the diverse subject matter expertise required of this organization. Perform hiring and review functions to ensure top performance on an ongoing basis.

     

    Continuous Improvement and Project management

     

    Guide the development and delivery of complex projects, coordination of stakeholders across the Technical Operations organization to maintain production rates to support the fleet. Ensuring end to end feedback loops for ongoing processes to identify and implement process improvement projects to improve execution.

     

    Reliability

     

    Coordinate with other engineering and reliability leaders to provide investigative support to reliability driver as well as drive changes within the shop environment to improve fleet reliability.

    Qualifications

    What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

    • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or related field.

    • 10+ years of relevant experience.

    • 3+ years of senior management experience.

    • 7+ years engineering experience.

    • Extensive knowledge of FARs (Federal Aviation Regulation), airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design and operational characteristics, aircraft materials and processes.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Passion for safety and service.

    • Coaches engineering and leadership talent.

    • Driven to measurably improve the quality and performance of aircraft deliveries.

    What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

    • Master’s degree in related field.

    • 5+ years of experience in leading teams in engineering at an air carrier or in an overhaul shop environment.

    • Broad understanding of engineering technologies including material forming processes, metallurgical analysis, high-temperature coating processes and machining.

    The base pay range for this role is $171,665.00 to $233,860.00.

     

    The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
