    Job Description

    Position Purpose:

    Provides and operates a process coordination role in the operation and maintenance of wastewater systems and facilities to company and statutory standards to ensure adequacy / quality of output streams - water, solids and air discharges.

    Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

    + To ensure compliance with all regulatory output standards.

    + To organize the planning, coordination and scheduling of operator activities in the requirements of the operation of wastewater facilities., either personally or through subordinate personnel. To organize cover for staff where appropriate. To undertake disciplinary action where appropriate.

    + To ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations and internal company policies, both when carrying out personal duties and when supervising subordinate personnel.

    + To identify and take action to resolve any poor performance of the process and undertake in depth analysis of the process and identify solutions at the optimum operating cost. Provide advice to maintenance departments as appropriate.

    + To organize and supervise contractors and ensure compliance with company and statutory standards both during design review and implementation of design.

    + To prioritize, plan, direct and coordinate resources in the field to maintain the required support.

    + To implement any incident or emergency procedures. To determine preliminary action to be taken in the event of emergencies such as machine, equipment or power failure. Notifies regulator in event of emergency condition as appropriate.

    + To monitor, observe and interpret operating conditions and initiate maintenance / corrective action as required.

    + To ensure monitoring samples are taken in line with the sample schedule plan. To ensure a log of operations and records of meter and gauge readings is correctly undertaken. Reviews and evaluates test results reports, records logs and graphs to assure proper evaluation of facility / system.

    + To ensure operation of plant mechanical and electrical equipment to maintain the process.

    + To train, coach and develop operators and other subordinate staff to maximize resource efficiency

    + Identifies, collects, compiles, and analyzes data for process use, development of standard operating procedures, reports, and planning.

    + Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company requirements.

    + Responsible for coordination and evaluation of the facility.

    + Provides task orientated supervision of operators in the field.

    + Plans, assigns and directs work.

    + Confirms and acts on adequacy of service provided by subordinates and contractors.

    + Ensures corrective action is taken in the event of poor performance.

    Work Environment:

    + While performing duties the employee will be expected to work in outside weather conditions.

    + There will be automatically starting mechanical and electrical equipment with the associated risks.

    + Odors and airborne particles are generated in the wastewater treatment process.

    + Dangerous atmospheres can be encountered, and company / regulatory precautions must be used in appropriate circumstances.

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience/Background:

    + Associates degree (AA) or equivalent., or technical school and three years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    + The Senior Operator will be required to demonstrate the technical skills and competency in the operation of wastewater treatment assets to perform all essential duties.

    + Team leadership and team working skills will be an essential requirement of the role.

    + Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

    + Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and log information correctly.

    + Ability to read and comprehend instructions correspondence and memos.

    + Able to present and communicate information clearly to individuals or groups to ensure smooth operation of the process.

    + Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

    + Ability to compute rate, ratio and per cent and interpret graphs.

    + Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentage, area, circumferences and volume. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.

    + Ability to present and interpret mathematical data.

    + Ability to apply common sense understanding to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

    + Ability to understand data and provide plan of actions based on interpretation.

    + Good personnel management and supervisory skills required.

    + Computer ability. Able to develop and use spreadsheets, databases, in order to analyze and present data.

    Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

    + Massachusetts Grade 7 DEP Operators License.

    + Valid driver's license.

    Physical Requirements:

    + While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell.

    + The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

    + The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds; frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and /or move up to 100 pounds.

    + Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Additional Information

    **Pay Rate:** $44.47 per hour.
