Senior Research Support Specialist
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in neuroscience or a related field. Two (2) years of full-time research experience in neuroscience or a related discipline. Experience in orofacial/cranial nervous system research. Experience with histological techniques, including tissue sectioning and immunohistochemistry. Previous experience in mouse colony management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in neuroscience or a related field. Five (5) or more years of full-time research experience in neuroscience or a related discipline. Experience in scientific writing and data documentation. Experience with X-ray imaging.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Takato Laboratory (https://www.stonybrook.edu/commcms/neurobiology/people/faculty\_Jun\_Takatoh-1.php)) at Stony Brook University is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Support Specialist to contribute to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying the autonomic control of eating behaviors. The laboratory employs advanced neuroanatomical, behavioral, and molecular techniques to investigate how the autonomic nervous system influences eating behaviors in mice, and how the brain regulates autonomic function associated with these behaviors.
Under general supervision, the incumbent will support experimental procedures, assist with lab operations, and contribute to data collection and analysis. The successful candidate will be expected to:
* Perform rodent stereotaxic surgeries.
* Conduct brain tissue dissection, sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and confocal imaging.
* Carry out whole-brain tissue clearing and imaging using light sheet microscopy.
* Assist in behavioral assays.
* Analyze experimental data.
* Maintain mouse colonies, including genotyping and detailed record keeping.
* Manage laboratory supplies, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
* Perform additional duties as assigned.
* Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
