    Job Summary

    Plans and delivers nutritional care to patients according to the physicians' diagnoses. Performs as a member of the ancillary support staff. Exercises independent judgment under the general supervision of the Clinical Nutrition Manager

    Maintains hospital standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience.

     

    Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice.

     

    Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.

     

    Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.

     

    Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.

     

    Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.

     

    Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.

     

    Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.

    Essential Functions

    Approves menus and nutritional supplements provided to patients.

     

    Assesses patients’ nutritional status according to established standards.

     

    Develops nutritional care plans based on the cultural orientation of the patient.

     

    Evaluates the results of nutritional intervention on the patient’s nutritional status to determine the need to revise the nutritional care plan.

     

    Improves patient’s nutritional status by consulting with physician on appropriate nutritional interventions.

     

    Interacts professionally with patient/family. Provides nutritional teaching and counseling to patient/family in making desired changes in eating habits.

     

    Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

     

    Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

    Required Skills

    Minimum Education

    Bachelor's degree in course work approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

    Required Skills

    Competent in implementing nutritional care plans for patients of any age including neonate, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric and terminally ill patients.

    Required Experience

    Minimum Work Experience

     

    Previous experience as a Registered Dietitian in an healthcare care setting.

    Required Licenses

    [Kentucky, United States] Dietitian and Nutritionist

     

    Proof of passing the national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Licensed dietitian in the state of Kentucky. Participates in continuing educational requirements to maintain registration.
