Description:

Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center, Hartford CT Specimen Processing & Emergency Department

You would be responsible for regular phlebotomy duties while helping oversee the phlebotomy functions in coordination with the supervisor. Acts as a resource for the staff in the areas of phlebotomy, assists with communication/ relationships with facilities and their staff and provides feedback to the staff as it relates to these areas. Provides training and education to staff and assigns mentors for newly hired staff.

What will you do:

+ Works as a staff Phlebotomist greater than 50% of the time regionally.

+ Acts as a resource for the staff in the areas of the laboratory and clinical units, particularly the Emergency Room.

+ Provide leadership and support to nursing staff, ER techs, and phlebotomists.

+ Organizes orientation and training materials for new Phlebotomy staff. Assists with the orientation and training of new employees and trouble shoots any issues or problems as they occur. Ensures that competencies are complete and sent to Supervisor for final signature.

+ Works with Supervisor in assuring policies, procedures and performance standards are adhered to on daily basis.

+ Reports and assists in investigating any patient incident or complaint and follows through to ensure appropriate resolution and educational follow-up with staff, if appropriate. Keeps Supervisor apprised of all complaints and subsequent investigations, and will involve patient services when appropriate.​

+ Reviews lab work queues and corrects registration errors within 24-48 hours to ensure appropriate billing.

+ Performs all other related duties as business and/or clinical needs dictate and as assigned.

Work Hours/Shift:

• 40 hours, Evenings, alternating weekends & holiday rotation

**Minimum Requirements** :

+ An Associate’s degree or equivalent related experience preferred.

+ Five (5) years phlebotomy experience, venipuncture and capillary puncture skills, specimen processing and medical terminology.

+ Requires one (1) + years of previous and progressively more responsible experience in a Lead or supervisory role.

+ Certification from NPA, NCA, or ASCP required or must be obtained within six (6) months in position. M

+ Must have the ability to work well with others in a very busy, close environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.

+ Puts others at ease by listening, allowing adequate time for interactions, and giving undivided attention. Shows receptivity to message being delivered. Gives attention to speaker; demonstrates non-verbal cues showing interest, and responds with information or questions, as appropriate.
