    Responsibilities

    This position is a primary interface between the Department of Business Development (BD) and senior administrative and physician leadership. The Sr. Director, Business Development has primary responsibility for proactively generating and promoting new business opportunities and products/ services for Mayo Clinic in support of strategic initiatives. In addition, this position is responsible for managing the process of identifying, evaluating and proposing new strategic business opportunities working in partnership with the Administrator and physician leadership of various Mayo Clinic functional areas. The position is expected to generate opportunities where significant value is accrued to Mayo Clinic either through revenue or equity appreciation. The position works between divisions to source, negotiate and close agreements with high value potential. Responsibilities include structuring and negotiating business deals and partnership arrangements as well as being accountable for completing and finalizing strategic business opportunities in support of Mayo Clinic initiatives. Activities include developing business plans for strategic business opportunities, creatively negotiating and structuring agreements, facilitation of review and approval of legal/contractual language, completing detailed due diligence on new technologies, competition and industry, management, financial statements and company site visits. In addition, expert evaluation of internal technologies, external technologies and companies and internal business opportunities is expected. The position will develop strategies to initiate and/or take advantage of new/emerging business opportunities that engender and support positive financial returns, and timeliness, speed in execution of targeted priorities. Additional leadership responsibilities include providing mentorship to BD Managers and Directors, project guidance and having BD Manager direct reports. Works in partnership with the Chief Business Development Officer, BD executive leadership and leadership of various Mayo Clinic functional areas across the enterprise. This position will be expected to be a BD and Mayo Clinic senior leader.

     

    This .2 FTE position is a hybrid of remote work and onsite expectations in an incredibly fast-paced business professional setting. Must live within driving distance of Rochester, MN campus.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree or MBA preferred. Other advanced degrees (PhD) also preferred. Ten years business experience including demonstrated ability in generating new business, analyzing new business opportunities, strategic thinking around legal and contractual structures/language and closing agreements that have accrued significant value required. Experience representing senior levels of an organization (including Mayo) or [2] years of supervisory experience required.

     

    Business experience in a smaller, entrepreneurial company situation as well as experience in a large corporate environment, where business skills and knowledge have been gained (including operational, strategic, financial, marketing, intellectual property, commercialization) preferred.

     

    Other required skills include creativity, excellent communication (written and oral) skills, strong financial analysis, strong and demonstrated ability to consider and negotiate structural and legal elements of an agreement and strategic and innovative thinking capabilities. Must have ability and confidence to effectively function independently, be a self-starter a team player and have lead direct reports in previous positions. Ability to effectively present to internal and external groups at a high level representing the leadership of the organization. Some domestic and international travel required.
