    Job Summary

    The University of Utah is seeking a dependable and organized Receiving Coordinator to support campus logistics operations. This position is responsible for managing incoming freight, logging and verifying deliveries, and maintaining an orderly and secure (temporary) warehouse environment. The role supports the broader mission of the university by ensuring timely and accurate handling of materials used across academic, administrative, and research departments.

     

    This position will assist and fill in for other roles and must be willing to cross-train and learn various skills and responsibilities. This position plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and safety of supply chain operations on campus.

    Responsibilities

    Freight Receiving:

    + Coordinate and oversee the unloading of incoming deliveries to university facilities.

    + Inspect shipments for damage or discrepancies; communicate issues to Procurement and vendors.

    + Verify delivery contents against purchase orders and receiving documentation.

    + Schedule and communicate with carriers and university departments regarding inbound shipments.

    Inventory Logging & Data Entry:

    + Accurately log received goods into university systems to properly track packages, freight, or equipment.

    + Maintain detailed records of shipments, delivery receipts, and associated paperwork.

    + Track items that require special handling or security protocols (e.g., lab equipment, radioactive, or hazardous materials).

    Warehouse Operations & Storage:

    + Organize and store palleted or non-palleted materials in designated areas, maintaining a safe and efficient warehouse layout.

    + Implement best practices for inventory control, labeling, and space utilization.

    + Monitor warehouse inventory dates, space, and assist in periodic audits of held materials and cycle times.

    Compliance and Safety:

    + Follow all University of Utah safety procedures and OSHA regulations.

    + Maintain clean, hazard-free work areas and participate in safety training sessions.

    + Report maintenance or safety issues in a timely manner.

    Support Services:

    + Provide support for campus departments requiring special receiving services, such as large equipment or time-sensitive materials.

    + Assist in coordinating with Facilities, Purchasing, and Departments where applicable.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Four years shipping and receiving/stockroom experience, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education), with preferably at least two years supervisory experience; the ability to routinely move or manipulate heavy objects; a knowledge of standard warehousing procedures; demonstrated human relations skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. A valid Utah Driver’s license with proof of insurability may be required for positions that require delivery responsibilities.
