Job Summary:
Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) is a joint venture between Caterpillar Inc. and Trimble Inc. whose purpose is to transform the way heavy equipment customers shape the world with solutions that differentiate Caterpillar Inc. and Trimble Inc.
A Mechanical Design Engineer will be part of CTCTs Electronic Hardware development team, specifically accountable for the mechanical design aspects of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) and Angle Sensors. This position will be responsible for the design of new products as well as for product improvements to provide high quality hardware solutions optimized for performance, cost, and reliability. This is an exciting role that has the potential to shape CTCTs next generation of sensing products.
What You Will Do:
+ The product scope of this role will include new technology, new products, and product improvement activities for Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) and other machine sensing technology components.
+ Develop concepts and architecture designs based on product requirements relative to mechanical packaging of electronics, housing and enclosure designs, electrical connectors, isolation mounting, and any other mechanical aspect required.
+ Understand product level requirements and create/manage more detailed mechanical requirements.
+ Prepare and deliver design analysis reports from product risk management tools, such as FMEAs, to help identify product risks, design in mitigations, and collaborate on subsequent verification activities.
+ Develop verification and validation test plans, direct execution of plans, and interpret results to ensure requirements are meet.
+ Assure completion of thorough design reviews during the product design cycle using analytical tools, development testing, prototypes, multi-disciplined teams, etc.
+ Manage the implementation of new product designs from concept through production.
+ Define and manage Mechanical BOM for products.
+ Responsible for drawing creation and updates.
+ Identify Mechanical Special Product Characteristics (KCs).
+ Design, quote, and guide building of tooling, installation (brackets), and fixtures.
Education requirement:
Requires a degree in an accredited Mechanical Engineering curriculum.
What skills you will have:
Mechanical Engineering - MFG:
+ Expert in 3D CAD and 2D drawing creation - PTC Creo preferred
+ Expert in mechanical design best practices and standard work.
+ Working knowledge in design of injection molded, sheet metal, and cast metal components.
+ Working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
+ Working knowledge of and participation in risk management tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs) and Design Verification Plan & Reports (DVP&R) to identify product risk for the purpose of designing in risk mitigations.
+ Working knowledge of design tools such as Finite Element Analysis, process simulation, thermal analysis, tolerance stack-up, bolted joint, etc ...
+ Working knowledge of random vibration and shock concepts and incorporation of the concepts into dynamic simulation.
+ Working knowledge of Root Cause Corrective Action best practices and methods.
+ Capable of troubleshooting mechanical failure modes such as bolted joints, moisture ingress, premature wear, etc...
+ Ability to perform tear down & benchmark studies.
Product Design - HTH:
+ Hands-on work knowledge in product areas like automotive, sensors (IMUs) etc.
+ Working knowledge of many different disciplines that are required to develop electronic products.
+ Working knowledge of testing venue capabilities and limitations relative to product applications and requirements.
+ Working knowledge of Change Management processes (product life cycle management).
+ Working knowledge of design for manufacturing concepts. Willingness to collaborate with manufacturing partners.
+ Working knowledge of durability and reliability engineering concepts and how to apply them to product design.
+ Working knowledge of product lifecycle and associated engineering needs.
+ Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and associated verification and validation activities.
+ Basic understanding of designing products for functional safety.
**Effective Communications** :
+ Ability to develop mechanical verification/validation strategies and test plans as an output of product risk assessments and articulate these to team members and stake holders.
+ Ability to provide technical recommendations from verification and validation findings ensuring requirements and certifications are meet.
Top Candidates will also have
+ Working knowledge with customer, supplier, validation, and test team interactions on for new product development. A self-starter with the ability to work independently and motivate others.
+ Ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers.
+ A passion for high quality products, best-in-class performance, and attention to detail is a must.

This position requires the candidate to **work full-time at the Dayton, OH office.**
Domestic relocation assistance is NOT available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
