Job Summary
Every day, campers participate in fun and engaging YMCA Summer Day Camp programs. Lead Counselors will lead a group of 10-15 youth in various activities throughout the camp, including group games, crafts, STEM projects, cooking projects, and more. Day Camp season runs June 24 through the end of August with training the week of June 15 - 21. Leads will start May 1. Start dates vary by location and program.
We are looking to hire full-time, seasonal staff at the below locations, and expected hours of work are during Day Camp hours, Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Hiring Range: $22 - $24.20 / hour
Responsibilities
What you'll be doing as Lead Outdoor Day Camp Counselor:
+ Assist Camp Supervisor in training, guiding, and overseeing Camp Counselors.
+ Oversee a group of up to 15 children grades 1-5 to ensure their health and safety and to provide a positive experience for each camper.
+ Implement program activities. May be asked to assist in planning activities.
+ Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
+ Professionally engage with parents / guardians to provide pertinent program information and share about their camper’s experience.
+ Ensure that equipment is clean, safe, set up, and stored properly.
+ Attend staff meetings and training programs as required.
+ Other duties as assigned.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications
You are 18 years of age or older and have:
+ 1 - 2 years of experience with children, including camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
+ Experience planning and implementing group activities.
+ Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and passion for excellence.
+ Completion of CPR / First Aid training.*
*At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 30 days after employment.)**At hire, or during onboarding for position.
MMR Vaccination May be Required: Camp programs require Mumps, Measles, and Rhubella (MMR) immunization in accordance with Department of Children, Youth and Family (DCYF) requirements.
Preferred Education/Experience:
+ Knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
+ Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
