What You'll Contribute

The Director, Business Controls Partner will be responsible for partnering with business leaders to ensure effective management of issues, changes, process & procedural documentation, and will lead risk assessment & exam support. This role will serve as the key point of contact to ensure business alignment for all activities related to the Sallie Mae Business Control Office for their given divisional area.

What You'll Do

+ Build and maintain strong relationships with business partners and stakeholders within your defined area, acting as the primary point of contact for Business Control activities and to collaborate on company-wide initiatives to ensure smooth operation and launch.

+ Lead issue response efforts, in partnership with business partners & cross-functional stakeholders to perform root cause analysis, ensure timely service recovery, and the development & execution of an appropriate management action plan.

+ Ensure effective change management of material business changes & initiatives and regulatory inquires. Coordinate project kick-off activities, project related updates, and the maintenance of project plans and appropriate project documentation.

+ Ensure all process documentation and policy/procedures for assigned business division are documented and updated & maintained on a periodic basis.

+ Facilitate the risk assessment update and review and contribute to the development and implementation of risk mitigation strategies.

+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas of risk and develop risk mitigation strategies, process improvements, and appropriate business controls.

+ Collaborate with Internal Audit, Compliance, Risk Management and other relevant functions to ensure effective communication and response to exams and issue resolution.

+ Support training initiatives to enhance awareness and understanding of control policies, procedures, and best practices among employees.

What you have

Minimum: Indicate minimum education, skills and experience required.

+ Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field (MBA preferred)

+ 8+ years of experience in risk management or internal control activity with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.

+ Knowledge of regulatory compliance and risk management principles

+ Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.

+ Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities and competing demands.

Preferred: Indicate “nice to haves” regarding education, skills, and experience.

+ Experience in finance, business operations, or risk/compliance management

+ 2-3 years of experience in internal controls, audit, or related field

+ Project Management Experience
