CUNY TV, the City University of New York’s television station, has been educating and informing viewers for more than three decades, remaining committed to extending CUNY’s academic mission to offer lifelong learning opportunities to all New Yorkers. Established in 1985, CUNY TV reaches 7.3 million broadcast households in the New York metro area from its studios at the CUNY Graduate Center. CUNY TV is broadcast over the air on channel 25.3 and in the five boroughs via cable channels, Spectrum and Optimum on channel 75, RCN on channel 77 and Verizon FiOS on channel 30.
CUNY TV is seeking a Director of Studio Operations to lead the broadcasting production and studio operations. Reporting to the Executive Director of CUNY TV, the Director of Studio Operations plays a pivotal role in ensuring smooth, high-quality content delivery, and technical excellence across all platforms.
Key duties include, but are not limited to the following:
+ Oversee all broadcast and production operations for CUNY TV programs, including in-studio and field productions, special projects, studio rentals, and events for internal and external clients in collaboration with the Executive Director and production leadership.
+ Supervise day-to-day operations of CUNY TV's broadcast facility, including the television and radio/podcast studios, coordinate with the Graduate Center Facilities team on HVAC, office spaces, and maintenance needs across all three station floors.
+ Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams including producers, engineers, IT, and archive staff—to maintain studio and field equipment, ensuring the station remains operational, technologically advanced, and on-air 24/7/365.
+ Manage production schedules and crew assignments, maintain client reservations and studio calendars, ensure smooth execution of daily programming, livestreams, and special university-wide broadcasts.
+ Procure and recommend technical equipment in collaboration with the Engineering and Web teams, stay current on industry trends and technology, including familiarity with SMPTE 2110 and other evolving standards.
+ Collaborate on external production strategy with the Assistant Director of Partnerships and Outreach and serve as a liaison to outside organizations such as the NY Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the National Association of Broadcasters.
+ Support flagship projects and events, including the State of the University Address and programming contributions from CUNY campuses, coordinating up to 100 hours of content monthly and ensuring high production standards.
+ Contribute to strategic planning by working closely with the full leadership team to define workflows, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure consistent quality across all broadcast and digital media initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
Preferred:
+ Degree in Broad Media Production or related field.
+ Eight years of experience with broadcast operations and management experience within public media, strongly preferred; or a statewide television or cable network.
+ Business acumen including the ability to manage staff, vendor management, fiscal management, including the ability to balance the delivery of programs against competing priorities, as well as problem solving, project management and creative resourcefulness.

- Develops, plans and oversees the day-to-day operations of a film, television, or radio facility, working with College departments and external organizations to assure appropriate and effective use of facilities
- Identifies and creates collaborative partnerships with broadcast, entertainment and media organizations to advance the mission of the College
- Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises full-time and part-time employees including student interns
- Cultivates strong relationships with internal clients, including but not limited to coverage of events such as graduation, convocation, lecture series, and conferences
- Develops and implements operating guidelines and standards, and monitors compliance with FCC regulations
- Prepares and manages annual operating budget; may oversee facilities rental activities and develop an external clientele

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is **$119,995 to $129,310** , commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
