    Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional with a passion for nonprofit and higher education finance? The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking a Senior Accountant to support both the College and the CWI Foundation. In this role, you’ll ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and manage grant compliance—all while contributing to the mission of student success and community impact.

    Strategic Financial Role:

    + Prepare monthly financial reports and analyze data for accuracy and completeness

    + Assist in developing the CWI Foundation budget and financial statements

    + Maintain internal controls and accounting procedures for the Foundation

    Impactful Work in Higher Education & Nonprofit Finance:

    + Support the CWI Foundation’s mission through accurate donation tracking and investment reporting

    + Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local grant regulations

    + Prepare audit-ready financial statements and assist with annual 990 filings

    Collaborative & Growth-Oriented Environment:

    + Work closely with College staff, faculty, and the Foundation team

    + Serve as the primary contact for general accounting inquiries

    + Contribute to a dynamic and evolving financial landscape

    Key Responsibilities:

    Financial Reporting & Analysis

    + Prepare journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts

    + Monitor cash and investment accounts and prepare monthly reports

    + Analyze and interpret financial data for internal and external reporting

    Grant & Donation Accounting

    + Perform full-cycle grant accounting from award to closeout

    + Ensure proper recording and administration of all donations

    + Maintain compliance with donor intent and IRS regulations

    Audit & Compliance

    + Prepare work papers and financial statements for annual audits

    + Assist with the College’s audit and ensure FASB compliance

    + Support the annual 990 tax filing for the Foundation

    What We’re Looking For:

    Education & Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (required)

    + 2+ years of nonprofit/FASB accounting experience (required)

    + Experience with year-end audits and financial analysis (required)

    + Higher education accounting experience (preferred)

    Technical & Analytical Skills:

    + Strong understanding of GAAP, FASB standards, and internal controls

    + Experience in grant and investment accounting (preferred)

    + Knowledge of IRS charitable contribution regulations and CASE standards (preferred)

    Professional Skills & Attributes:

    + Adaptable to a fast-paced, evolving environment

    + Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills

    + Effective communicator with the ability to manage multiple priorities

    Additional Instructions for Applicants:

    Most positions at CWI are in-person and based on campus. While some roles may allow up to two remote workdays per week, eligibility for remote work is determined on a case-by-case basis at the hiring manager's discretion. All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
