Mainstay provides safe, affordable housing and compassionate support services to people of all ages and abilities—particularly elders, individuals with disabilities, and those overcoming homelessness. We believe in treating everyone with empathy, dignity, and respect, empowering residents to live as independently as possible in their communities. Mainstay is seeking a compassionate and responsible Live-In Mentor to join our team in one of our community-based group homes supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This unique role combines direct care responsibilities with the benefits of affordable housing, offering an excellent opportunity for students or early-career professionals interested in social work, psychology, or human services.
The Live-In Mentor will share an on-site apartment with another Live-In Mentor attached to the group home. You’ll provide limited scheduled direct care support each day and be available overnight to respond to any emergencies—offering vital reassurance and safety to residents.
What you will do:
+ Direct Care:
+ Provide at least 30 minutes of direct care each morning or afternoon (e.g., medication reminders, light support with ADLs, companionship)
+ Cover at least two weekend shifts per month (typically 4–6 hours per shift)
+ Support residents in their daily routines, promoting independence and wellbeing
+ Overnight Emergency Presence:
+ Remain onsite overnight as an in-case of emergency onsite contact (sleeping)
+ Coordinate with program staff if serious issues arise during overnight hours
+ Household Support:
+ Maintain respectful, cooperative relationships with the co-mentor roommate and residents
+ Support conflict resolution, especially around roommate dynamics
+ Contribute to a positive, calm, and safe home environment
+ Team Collaboration:
+ Maintain communication with the House Manager and Program Manager
+ Participate in occasional house meetings and staff check-ins
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
+ Highschool Diploma or equivalent
+ Passion for working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
+ Comfortable sharing a living space with a fellow Live-In Mentor
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills
+ Ability to navigate roommate issues with maturity and diplomacy
+ Dependable and responsive in emergency situations
+ Interest in social work, human services, psychology, or related fields is strongly preferred
+ Ability to move into the apartment soon after accepting the position
+ Undergraduate or Graduate students in related fields are strongly encouraged to apply
What We Offer
+ Housing (private bedroom in shared, on-site apartment, parking and on-site laundry)
+ Hourly pay for scheduled direct care shifts
+ A meaningful opportunity to build experience in social services
+ Training and ongoing support from experienced program managers
+ A welcoming, mission-driven workplace rooted in empathy and teamwork
