    The Principal Faculty Member in the Physician Associate Program is a core member of the academic team responsible for the development, delivery, and assessment of the PA curriculum across both didactic and clinical phases. This position combines classroom instruction, clinical coordination, student advisement, and programmatic support. The ideal candidate is a licensed PA or physician with a passion for teaching, curriculum development, and mentoring students through the entirety of their education.

     

    This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment that supports the program-s mission to prepare competent, patient-centered physician associates in a student supportive environment.

     

    The School of Health Sciences offers a vibrant and diverse environment for teaching and research with a focus on inter-professional education. The School of Health Sciences has strong relationships with multiple health systems and public health entities in the greater New England region that provide ample opportunities for research, community partnerships, and other collaborations. The School of Health Sciences offers degrees at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels.

    You will:

    Didactic Phase Responsibilities:

    + Develop, deliver, and assess course content in areas of medical expertise (e.g., clinical medicine, physical diagnosis, pathophysiology).

    + Serve as Instructor of Record (Course Director) for one or more didactic courses, ensuring alignment with program competencies and ARC-PA standards.

    + Create lectures, exams, instructional materials, and lab activities that promote active, student-centered learning.

    + Participate in the design and administration of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), simulations, and practical assessments.

    Clinical Phase Responsibilities:

    + Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Education to evaluate clinical rotation sites and preceptors.

    + Participate in the assessment of student performance during clinical rotations, including end-of-rotation exams, site evaluations, and case presentations.

    + Provide faculty support during site visits, preceptor training, and clinical case review sessions.

    + Contribute to clinical seminars, capstone courses, or summative assessments.

    Advising and Mentoring:

    + Serve as a faculty advisor to an assigned group of PA students throughout the program.

    + Provide academic counseling, professional development guidance, and support for students in difficulty.

    + Design and implement remediation activities under the direction of the Director of Academic Education.

    + Foster a learning environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Program Administration and Assessment:

    + Participate in ongoing curriculum review, programmatic assessment, and accreditation preparation.

    + Contribute to the program-s self-study, strategic planning, and continuous quality improvement efforts.

    + Serve on program committees (e.g., admissions, curriculum, student progress and promotion) as assigned.

    Institutional and Professional Engagement:

    + Represent the program at institutional events, recruitment activities, and professional conferences.

    + Engage in continuing medical education (CME), and professional development.

    + Promote the PA profession and model ethical, evidence-based, patient-centered care.

    You need:

    Required:

    + Graduate of an ARC-PA-accredited Physician Assistant program.

    + Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or related field.

    + Current NCCPA certification and eligibility for licensure as a PA in the state of employment.

    + Prior teaching, precepting, or academic experience (may include adjunct, clinical instruction, or CME).

    Preferred:

    + Doctoral degree in related field.

    + Experience in course design, student assessment, or accreditation support.

    + Familiarity with ARC-PA standards and expectations for faculty.

    + Experience with simulation-based instruction and educational technology.

    Skills and Competencies:

    + Strong commitment to excellence in PA education and student success.

    + Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

    + Ability to collaborate with faculty peers and leadership of other health science programs.

    + Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas), instructional software, and digital assessment tools.

    + Capacity for self-directed learning, professional growth, and academic scholarship.

    Working Conditions:

    + Full-time, on-campus position with regular teaching, advising, and meeting responsibilities.

    + Occasional travel to clinical sites or professional meetings.

    + May require evening or weekend availability for special program events.
