In support of Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York (PPCWNY)’s mission, the Assistant Instructor has responsibility to maintain a positive environment at The Connection, and assist in the creation and implementation of sexual health, youth development, and recreational programs.
Essential Functions
Maintain the Connection Environment
+ Supports The Connection Coordinator to implement all Connection activities, taking assignments as scheduled and showing leadership by jumping in when needed
+ Provides leadership for youth that aligns with best practices and PPCWNY’s mission at The Connection
+ Monitors activity and maintains control of the facility through implementation of procedures and policies that effectively manage Connection access and ensure safe and appropriate behaviors while Connection participants are in the facility
+ Ensures all visitors follow sign-in/sign-out procedures and that safety zones are observed
+ Prepares daily snacks and meals for participants
+ Maintains cleanliness and organization of the facility by completing daily and weekly cleaning tasks that are assigned and those emerging, as necessary
+ Serves as a positive role model for participants and develops healthy relationships with Connection participants
Instruction
+ Assists The Connection Coordinator, Outreach and Education Specialists, and other Instructors with the facilitation of programming predominantly at the Connection but also occasionally at community sites or schools
+ Includes classroom setup and clean up, record keeping, participant behavior management, working one-to-one or supervising small groups and breakout sessions
+ Completes all training required for programs facilitated by PPCWNY
+ Participates in the creation and implementation of positive development activities including, but not limited to basic youth mentorship, cooking lessons, physical activity, skills development, etc.
+ Helps youth who need extra support in completing tasks
+ Engages in recreational activities with Connection participants (e.g. movies, video games, board games, etc.)
+ Provides linkage and referral for youth for educational, social, emotional, vocation and health services
Team and Organizational Participation
+ Works effectively as a team member with the Health Education and Outreach Supervisor, Connection Coordinator and other Connection team members including other Assistant Instructors, Outreach and Education Specialists, Youth Catalysts, and Connection guest presenters
+ Seeks opportunities to participate in other PPCWNY Teams, participates in at least one team other than The Connection Team
+ Attends, participates in, and completes staff meetings, training, and in-services
+ Shows respect to all internal and external customers for differences in backgrounds, lifestyles, viewpoints and needs in areas such as race, gender, ethnicity, creed, sexual orientation, and others
+ Works with Youth Catalysts to create social media content relating to Connection activities.
+ Works with The Connection team to recruit and engage Connection participants
+ Assists with other duties, as deemed necessary
Other Accountability Activities
+ Participate in affiliate initiatives
+ Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department
Requirements
Qualifications
Applicants must possess the following qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):
Education—
+ High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Experience—
+ Minimum 1 year experience working in a youth setting
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
+ Ability to work effectively as a team member with The Connection team
+ Engage appropriately with parents and the general public
+ Demonstrates ability to establish rapport and build healthy relationships with Connection participants
+ Must have availability during after school hours and on occasional weekends
+ Planned Parenthood seeks candidates who have proficiency in one of the following languages, including but not limited to: Spanish, Nepali, Arabic, and Swahili

Physical Requirements
+ Ability to lift up to 25 pounds with or without an accommodation
+ Possess sufficient mobility to perform the Essential Functions listed in this Job Description with or without an accommodation
+ May experience visual fatigue working at computer with potential extended periods of sitting
+ Ability to travel to all agency locations as assigned
Work Schedule This is a part-time, 20 hour a week, position; regular schedule will be Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Benefits & Compensation
At PPCWNY, we are committed to equitable compensation practices and transparency. In alignment with these efforts, the pay for this position ranges from $17.28 to $20.09/hour. Actual compensation will be determined by experience and other factors permitted by law.
