The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) District 4, Office of Maintenance, is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician III in Baltimore and Harford counties. This position is open to anyone who meet the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. he resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. Nature of Work:
The Transportation Engineer Technician III performs duties in maintenance work areas including but not limited to repairs to roadways, buildings, parking areas, bridges, traffic barrier, lighting, drainage (pipes, inlets, manholes, etc.), shoulders, crack sealing, salt structures, and pavement markings (striping, heat applied lines and symbols, rpms). This position will work for the TET V's and District Maintenance Operations Engineer in the repair areas noted above.
Inspection duties will include ensuring contractors comply with all current SHA standards and specifications of construction and materials. Duties will include completing documentation, both written and electronic, of materials, equipment and manpower for various work activities. Duties also include tracking and reporting task progress to ensure projects are completed in a safe and timely manner.

Qualifications
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
2. Applicants who possess an Associates Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Surveying or Surveying Technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.
Licenses & Certifications
1. This position requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B, and the candidate is required to work winter operations.
2. Employees in this classification may be required to achieve certification in field testing procedures in concrete, soil aggregate and Hot Mix Asphalt within a given time period.
3. The selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain their Work Zone Traffic Control Manager Certification through MDOT SHA within 6-12 months of their assignment.

+ Employees in this classification may be considered “Essential Employees” and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to “Essential Employee” status.
+ This position will be on call 24/7 for highway emergencies and natural disasters and is considered essential personnel.
+ This position may be required to work various shifts and on weekends depending on assignment.
