    General Function

    The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.

    Description of Primary Duties

    The position is a 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment in Animal Science and Equine Science program areas. We are seeking a candidate with experience and expertise in reproductive physiology. Teaching responsibilities; instructing standard load of nine undergraduate and/or graduate course credits per academic semester, advising, and supporting both undergraduate and graduate students as well as providing access to high impact practices for increasing student retention, persistence, and success. Research responsibilities; development of an active research program involving undergraduate and graduate (MS) students that results in peer-reviewed publications and applications for extramural funding to support research. The position offers the opportunity to focus on equine reproduction, nutrition, health, physiology, or related disciplines. Candidates should engage in service to the school, college, and university.

     

    Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

     

    The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.

    Additional Qualifications

    - Ph.D. in Animal Science or a closely related field.

     

    - Ability to teach courses in equine science and reproductive physiology

     

    - Potential for, or evidence of, application of innovative, learner-centered pedagogy.

     

    - Involvement and ability to engage undergraduate and graduate students in equine science research

     

    - Potential for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals

     

    - Ability or potential to mentor and support our student population

     

    - Effective oral and written communication skills.
