Job Details The Manager – Accounting Initiatives plays a strategic role in driving initiatives that enhance financial operations and support the mission of a nonprofit healthcare organization. This position manages high-priority, cross-functional projects involving accounting processes, system improvements, regulatory readiness, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong background in healthcare finance, understands nonprofit accounting standards, and excels at collaborating across clinical, administrative, and operational teams. Key Responsibilities Lead and execute special projects within the General Accounting Department, such as process redesign, system implementations, grant compliance initiatives, and audit readiness efforts. Collaborate with stakeholders in finance, clinical operations, IT, and development to align project goals with organizational strategy and healthcare regulatory requirements. Drive process improvements to ensure accurate and efficient financial reporting, in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (e.g., FASB). Support the integration of new service lines, joint ventures, or program expansions from an accounting perspective. Serve as a liaison to the Financial Reporting team for external audit requests and manage responses to audit and compliance inquiries related to project activities. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance financial stewardship and accountability. Provide training and support to accounting and program staff related to changes from project outcomes. Prepare detailed project updates and presentations for senior leadership and finance committees. Support data requests and provide related analysis for senior leadership as needed. Assist the Director of General Accounting with the financial statement close and/or other projects as necessary. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or healthcare settings Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit financial reporting, and fund accounting Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional projects or initiatives Ability to effectively present and communicate at the manager level Self-motivated, resourceful, and entrepreneurial, demonstrating willingness for learning and improvement Exceptional Excel capabilities Preferred: CPA designation or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Healthcare Administration Experience with nonprofit healthcare financial systems (e.g., Lawson, Epic) Experience with datamining systems (e.g., IDEA) Familiarity with Uniform Guidance, grant management, and federal cost principles Prior experience supporting or leading audits for nonprofit healthcare organizations Certification in Lean and/or Six Sigma Green Belt or Higher Core Competencies Mission-driven mindset with a strong commitment to nonprofit values Strategic and critical thinking Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills Adaptability in a dynamic, regulated healthcare environment Strong analytical, planning, and project management capabilities Salary Range USD $120,000.00 - USD $130,000.00 /Yr. This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
