    FLOOR SPECIALIST

    We are excited to invite an experienced Floor Specialist to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for a Floor Specialist for our Families w/ Children Facility in the Jamaica area of Queens, NY. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and appearance of our facilities by preparing surfaces, installing and aligning tiles, sanding and buffing floors, and applying finishing touches. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented, possess excellent problem solving skills, and the physical ability to perform given tasks.     ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS:

    Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Assess and prepare surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and patching as needed.

    + Measure, cut, and install tiles to meet design specifications and space requirements.

    + Apply adhesives or mortar and position tiles accurately, ensuring proper spacing and alignment using levels and straightedges.

    + Cut and install intricate tile patterns or mosaics when required.

    + Apply grout to fill gaps between tiles, ensuring smooth finish.

    + Perform quality checks on tile installation, addressing any imperfections.

    + Perform sanding operations using various sanding machines (drum sanders, edge sanders) with different grit sandpapers to smooth floor surfaces, including hard-to-reach areas.

    + Fill surface imperfections using wood fillers to repair scratches, gaps, or blemishes.

    + Buff and polish floors with appropriate equipment to achieve a high gloss finish.

    + Maintain a clean and safe work environment, protecting surrounding areas and removing debris after completion of work.

    + Performance of duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + High School Diploma or equivalent.

    + Physically able to stand, bend, lift up to 60 lbs., and operate heavy equipment.

    + Experience with floor types, tile installation, and finishing techniques.

    + Ability to operate and maintain floor cleaning equipment.

    + Understanding of chemical safety procedures.

    + Ability to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.

    + Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently.

    $39,140.00

     

    Time Shift: 8am - 4pm or 4pm - 12am
