About the Position
The Structural Trades II position is located in The Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT's) Region 4 Maintenance, at the Greeley Headquarters in Greeley, CO. Where this Unit is responsible for the overall operation of all HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing systems, any building structural needs.
The Structural Trades II ensures adequate performance of, but not limited to, heating, ventilating, air conditioning systems, fueling equipment, magnesium storage systems, flooring,(carpet, tile, concrete), roofs(metal and composite shingles), doors, windows, locks, plumbing, electrical, office space, (remodeling), furniture(moving, building and repair). This position utilizes plans, cost estimates and researches specifications for building remodels and repairs
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
+ Building maintenance repair, replace, preservation, remodel and or install exhaust fans, doors, windows, roofs, locks, heaters, walls, ceilings, gutters, garage doors and openers, carpet, tile, concrete, lighting, plumbing and electrical fixtures.
+ Installing fixtures, plumbing, building shelves, moving and repairing furniture, painting buildings, etc.;
+ Using power hand tools including circular saw, table saw, drills, cutting torch, welder and a variety of tools and equipment used for building construction;
+ Performing preventive maintenance and repairing swamp coolers, heat and air conditioning units and fuel pumps;
+ Adjusting metering gauges to regulate measured flow rates using specialized measuring equipment;
+ Purchasing parts, tools and material needed to make repairs to all facilities within the region;
+ Overseeing projects that have been outsourced to private vendors;
+ Providing support for area Maintenance Patrols during snow removal and de-icing operations;
+ Removing snow in the Greeley Headquarter complex using equipment such ½ ton pickup with front-mounted-plow, Gator with plow attachment, snowblower, and hand shovel along with the use of deicing materials;
+ Operating and maintaining loader, forklift, mowing equipment, spray units for weed control and fertilizer;
+ Completing pre- and post- trip inspections and work orders in SAP;
+ Performing and assisting in the daily planning and scheduling of activities in assigned work area including temporary assignments;
+ Adjusting priorities and activities based on circumstances, condition, and direction;
+ Performing inspections of work sites such as access, utilities, permitted extra-legal loads, roadway inventory, night inspections, and storm water permits;
+ Monitoring above ground storage tanks, fuel, and materials;
+ Preparing cost estimates for projects;
+ Keeping cost records, maintenance management systems reports;
+ Following and ensuring compliance with all safety practices and procedures;
+ Using Microsoft Suite, SAP, Gmail and other software programs in the completion of duties;
+ Performing other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
+ Primarily 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday (subject to change)
+ Some overtime and weekend hours required;
+ Required to operate CDOT vehicles;
+ Exposure to loud noise;
+ Exposure to fumes, odors, gasses, dusts, etc. that may affect breathing, eyes and skin
+ Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment, which CDOT provides
+ Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products;
+ Some equipment requires the use of respirators;
+ Use of ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10 – 20'
+ Must be willing and be physically able to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold), variable weather conditions and at varying elevations;
+ Occasionally lift or team lift 50+ lbs.
+ Required to use various hand, power tools, and operating equipment;
+ Frequently responds to emergencies outside regular work hours and may work overtime including weekends and holidays;
+ Required to use computers to accomplish everyday work duties;
+ The average work week is 40 hours a week, with periodic overtime due to emergencies or inclement weather
+ R espond within 30 minutes for facility emergencies and snow removal after hours

Four (4) years of experience in any combination of the areas below:

Substitutions:
+ Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher-level course work from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocation or trades school appropriate to the work assignment may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.Documentation of this must be submitted with your application.

Preferred Qualifications:
The Exceptional Applicant will be an experienced skilled trades craftsman and will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:
+ Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section;
+ Highest work/personal ethics and integrity;
+ Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the maintenance and repair in the skilled labor crafts of carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, construction, painting, landscaping, and masonry;
+ Extensive experience safely and effectively operating several types of heavy equipment such as tandem snow plow, pick up plow, skid loader, front end loaders, backhoes, tractors, bucket trucks, aerial devices, skid steers, and fork lifts;
+ A current Commercial Driver's License A or B with no restriction on airbrakes that allows operation in Colorado;
+ Extensive experience effectively using several types of hand tools;
+ Working knowledge and understanding of the best practices for fire, safety, and ADA rules and regulations;
+ Experience reading, understanding and applying information from equipment manuals;
+ Ability to evaluate maintenance/repair requirements and write scope of works;
+ Excellent reasoning, analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving ability;
+ Strong commitment to safety;
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
+ Strong planning, organizational, work scheduling, time and project management skills;
+ Effective oral communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills;
+ Self-starter and motivated to accomplish tasks;
+ Strong customer service skills;
