    The Work You Will Do:

    Highway Maintenance Technician I – District Five / Orlando Maintenance

     

    This position will use a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision. Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision. Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.

     

    Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment. Cleans and washes equipment.

     

    Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.

     

    Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).

    The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Ability to:

    + Read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms.

    + Maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures.

    + Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.

    + Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    + Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.

    + Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.

    + Work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.

    + Stand for an extended period of time.

    + Perform minor maintenance on vehicles.

    + Operate motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment.

    Other Job-Related Requirements:

    + Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies.

    + The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.

    + Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.

    + This position requires a Class E driver’s license.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Class E driver’s license is required.

     

    This position requires a valid Class “E” driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:

     

    + three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;

    + any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;

    + a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and

    + a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.

     

    Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver’s license confirmed.
