Job Description
To carry out financial processes of the department both pertaining to state funds and the Research Foundation funds including: setting up spreadsheets and/or databases and recording, monitoring, and reporting budget information, reconciling accounts and resolving discrepancies with the Banner system, assisting the chair and the department manager with annual budget process, monitoring account balances, and recommending adjustment actions. To complete the paperwork processes for payroll and purchasing activities.

Some knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets for financial data. Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Some knowledge of effective customer service and problem resolution techniques. Some knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including communicating to a diverse audience. Ability to independently plan work and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to analyze and interpret financial information.

Considerable experience in administrative support role. Some experience carrying out financial processes, such as purchasing or payroll, and monitoring budgets.

Considerable knowledge of the eVA procurement system. Ability to use Banner software. Considerable knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia accounting, procurement, and payroll policies and practices. Accounting/bookkeeping experience, preferably in a public academic and research environment. College level basic accounting or equivalent training or experience.
