    Job Summary

    The Language Resource Center (LRC) is a unit within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) that supports faculty, staff, and students involved in the study of languages, literatures, and cultures at the University of Michigan. The LRC is located on the first floor of North Quad, where we maintain the Main Center with a media library and diverse resources for students, faculty, and staff, with spaces for group and independent study, computer workstations, computer classrooms, and an audio/video production studio. We support faculty in materials development, technology integration, and offer instructional support and consultation. The staff support videoconferencing for global exchanges between classes, and the Big10 Academic Alliance Courseshare program. Our unit regularly hosts, arranges, and sponsors events for faculty, staff, and students, including: Translate-a-thon, pedagogical presentations, cultural events, and activities related to language and culture.

     

    The Language Resource Center invites applications for a full-time Administration Assistant to handle a variety of tasks in managing center operations and services. The ideal candidate will have the maturity and good judgment to quickly and deeply become immersed in key aspects of main center operations, which include supervising student staff, managing the circulation desk, attending to the needs of faculty using the center's facilities and resources, coordinating the Language Bank, and collaborating with LRC senior staff.     Responsibilities*

    Functionally Supervise Student Staff

    + Assist Information Specialist with hiring, training, scheduling, and reviewing performance

    + Plan and facilitate monthly student staff meetings to empower student employees and build team spirit

    + Serve as point person for main center (basic) technical troubleshooting

    + Involve student staff as appropriate in projects for senior staff and Reservations Office

    Manage Reservations

    + Oversee reservations made by student staff - facilities, loans, reserves and screenings

    + Manage streaming reservations - streaming rights/license/fair use research and film/subtitle availability, digitize videos

    + Assist Information Specialist with other tasks as assigned

    Coordinate Language Bank

    + Coordinate systems, strategies and workflow with the goal of maintaining a visible, sustainable program that services the U-M community, as well as outside groups and programs

    + Assist with event programming around translation activities, events and workshops

    Further Mission of LRC

    + Provide administrative and logistical support for the LRC may include: event programming, research, special projects, website maintenance, social media development and maintenance, and community outreach.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Associates Degree and/or equivalent work experience

    + Two to four years of administrative experience

    + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    + Customer service experience

    + Demonstrated attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and organizational skills

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent work experience, preferably in a field related to world languages and cultures or information science

    + Experience working in a library or archive

    + Functional supervisory experience

    + Demonstrated passion for language learning and/or translation

    + Experience with productivity software tools and database usage
