Job Summary:
The Advanced Practice Radiation Therapist (APRT) is a key member of the radiation oncologist-directed team that demonstrates competency over and above the staff therapist position by exceeding the clinical domains of a radiation therapist through mastery of advanced modalities. The APRT serves as a department clinical leader in delivering adaptive therapy and is accountable for all advanced modalities/techniques including proficiency in contouring. The APRT facilitates the coordination of care across the continuum and serve as a resource and role model for expert clinical practice. The APRT demonstrates mastery of the advanced knowledge, skillset, and the character to effectively meet and promote the standards for competent and professional therapy practice.
**Accountabilities** :
Technical Responsibilities
• Adaptive Planning: Responsible for oversight of all adaptive planning cases. Primary liaison and clinical lead for the advanced modality ensuring safe, high-quality, efficient care by partnering with physician and physics leaders.
• Contouring Expertise: Serve as the contouring expert for adaptive treatment planning, identifying, delineating, and contouring organs at risk and influencer structures.
• Procedure Preparation and Execution: Prepare rooms and equipment for patient treatment according to prescription and documentation. Ensure documents are approved, assist in patient preparation, and follow departmental procedures for treatment and imaging.
• Rotation: Rotate through treatment units and CT simulation to maintain competency in all departmental functions and workflows.
• Machine and Equipment Operations: Operate Radiation Oncology equipment, following all safety rules. Ensure proper function, cleanliness, and storage according to departmental standards and procedures. Perform safety inspections and quality assurance as required.
Clinical Care
• Liaison Role: Act as the primary liaison between patients, radiation oncologists, and other healthcare team members, facilitating clear communication and understanding.
• Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and continuous monitoring, addressing any known deviations in patient anatomy or plan creation.
• Emergency Preparedness and Response: Recognize critical situations requiring immediate attention, contact appropriate resources, and provide emergency assistance as required.
• Patient Communication: Explain radiation procedures thoroughly to patients, reinforcing physicians' directives regarding treatment and care.
• Patient Support: Provide physical and emotional support to patients during their stay in the department. Maintain sensitivity to the physical, cultural, and emotional needs of patients, ensuring a compassionate and supportive environment.
Team Collaboration and Communication
• Multidisciplinary Team: Collaborate closely with physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, nursing, department operations and other radiation therapists as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
• Problem Solving and Information Exchange: Identify and report problems, provide corrective action, and follow proper escalation.
Additional Responsibilities
• Regulatory Adherence: Perform clinical activities under the supervision of a licensed radiation oncologist, adhering to federal and state laws, regulations, and institutional policies. Ensure all clinical practices meet regulatory standards, maintaining accurate and thorough documentation of patient care and treatment processes.
• Other Duties: Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures. Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
+ Professionalism: The APRT demonstrates a commitment to the Radiation Therapy profession through life-long learning adherence to the ARRT code of ethics and participation in the Radiation Therapy professional organization.

Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree Radiation Therapy (Required)
+ Certificate of Completion from Approved Radiation Therapy Technology Program (Required)
+ 5+ years of Radiation Therapy experience. (Required)
+ 3+ years of Radiation Therapy experience at Penn Medicine would also be considered.
+ BLS Certification (Required)
+ Certification in Contouring - must be obtained within 3 months of hire
