    About the Department

     

    The Marketing and Communications Department sets NYRR’s brand tone. They construct and magnify stories and messages to help and inspire people through running, across advertising, media, brand strategy, creative materials, video, photography, race broadcasts, editorial, brand presentations, and multiple web and digital platforms. They connect with the world's best athletes and ambassadors to deepen NYRR's mission. They leverage channels ranging from international broadcasts to screens at our NYRR RUNCENTER, individual emails to mass media, and from digital journeys to race day signage. The Marketing and Communications team connects NYRR's initiatives and innovations to the hearts and minds of our community, inspiring them to run for life.

     

    About the Position

     

    This exciting position is responsible for creating and executing a broad range of fresh and original design solutions across all media platforms with an emphasis on digital and emerging technologies. This includes creating, concepting, and layout design of all marketing communications (online and offline) and ensuring programs align with strategic marketing requirements, follow brand guidelines and meet the requirements of the creative brief. The Designer COMMS, NYRR Creative Studio position reports to the Creative Director, Studio.

    Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):

    + Responsible for creating designs for a wide range of projects including print collateral, event signage and experiential environments, race assets and runner amenities, print collateral, and digital creative content (social media, websites, email newsletters and blogs, online ads, motion graphics, and animation for NYRR race events.

    + Maintain NYRR brand standards and visual integrity across multiple media platforms.

    + Collaborate with the Creative Director, and Director, Creative Operations, with minimal supervision, to develop fresh visual digital approaches to both project deliverables and presentations. Provide design solutions for initiatives driven by various departments, including Marketing Strategy, Events, Sponsorship, Runner Products and Services, Membership, and Youth and Community.

    + Operate in a high-energy, “can do” environment while displaying an ongoing understanding of roles, responsibilities, schedules, and deadlines.

    + Produce projects from concept to completion; negotiate with agencies and vendors as needed; manage scheduling and administrative duties as needed; track production costs and design timelines as necessary.

    + Present creative assets to inform and gain approval from stakeholders; proactively represent design goals and needs in collaborative meetings.

    + Work proactively with marketing leads to refine briefs to advance creative process, save development time and save money.

    + Collaborate with creative project managers to refine and improve marketing planning timelines for 5 Borough and Heritage Race Series.

    + Manage freelancers as needed to meet deadlines.

    Job Requirements:

    Experience:

    + Six to eight years’ experience, preferably with a brand agency or event production company.

    + Exceptional portfolio of diverse creative digital work demonstrating a strong understanding of online trends, technology and design.

    + Proven experience in integrated marketing and graphic design.

    + Previous experience translating marketing objectives across platforms.

    Education & Certifications:

    + Bachelors degree in Fine Arts preferred

    Skills and Attributes:

    + Thorough knowledge of print and digital design, production principles, and problem-solving skills.

    + Expertise with industry-standard software.

    + Strong typography, layout, production and motion graphics skills.

    + Deep understanding of brand guidelines and standards for outbound marketing.

    + Excellent time management, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to work quickly and efficiently, multi-task and prioritize many projects in a fast-paced environment.

    + High degree of creativity with hands on design and production skills.

    + Highly collaborative and team player.

    + Strong attention to detail.

    Software:

    + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

    + Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects

    + 3D rendering a plus

    + AR social filters a plus (Spark AR or equivalent)

    + UI/UX - Digital prototyping design a plus, (Figma, Sketch or equivalent)

    Other Requirements:

    + All staff are required to work the NYC Half Marathon, Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS NYC Marathon.

     

    Salary: 80K

     

    NYRR requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless approved for a medical or religious exemption
