    Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

     

    The NBC News Washington Bureau is looking for a highly motivated Associate Producer to join our team covering Capitol Hill. In this highly collaborative role, you will work alongside the Capitol Hill correspondents, producers, digital reporters, and camera operators to gather on- and off-air reporting about what members of Congress are doing and their reaction to news of day events. You will contribute to our network and streaming broadcasts as well as our digital content. There may be opportunities to cover lawmakers outside of Washington and contribute to NBC News’ election coverage. You should be willing to work a flexible schedule that aligns with Congress’ schedule.

    Responsibilities:

    + Collaborate with and support the Capitol Hill team in coordinating the gathering and feeding of news materials relating to Congress

    + Log press conferences, stakeouts, floor speeches, news interviews, and other events where Capitol Hill newsmakers appear

    + Field produce Capitol Hill correspondents on the Hill and in other locations as necessary

    + Assist in breaking news & on-going story coverage, including through reporting and research

    + Shoot iPhone video of lawmakers when cameras are not allowed/available and events with professional cameras when necessary

    + Work with correspondents in the NBC Capitol Hill team and to prepare for live, taped and written reports for all NBC News Group platforms and shows

    + Utilize a variety of logging platforms, such as Otter and Media Central

    + Pitch original story ideas for all platforms

    + At least two years editorial production experience at a network, cable or digital outlet

    + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

    + Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

    + Digital journalism skills for iPhone shooting and transmission via Latakoo

    + Willing and able to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news

    + Willing to work on Capitol Hill and/or the DC Bureau

    + Able to work additional hours beyond scheduled shift with little or no notice if needed

    + Willing to work occasional weekends and holidays

    + Unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

    + Strong news judgment & work ethic

    + Desire to be a team player as well as a self-starter who can work independently

    + Demonstrated strong knowledge and interest in politics and the legislative process

    + Solid working knowledge of newsroom systems and newsgathering operations

    + Strong reporting, writing and research skills

    Additional Requirements:

    + Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
