    Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

     

    CNBC is seeking an experienced reporter to cover the tech companies, startups and inventors at the center of the AI boom. Based in San Francisco or Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, you will be responsible for producing original stories on the most important technology trend of the moment, while also covering breaking news, such as big financing rounds, C-suite shakeups and acquisitions. You also may be asked to work on or lead ambitious projects with a group of other reporters and editors. We are looking for a journalist who can break news, write sharp and timely analysis, and provide context on the political, societal, and ethical implications of significant breakthroughs in the industry.

    Responsibilities:

    + Report and write stories on AI trends, technologies and key players, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia, Google and Meta, with a focus on business impact.

    + Break news on AI-related companies, investments and other major developments.

    + Take complicated topics like large language models and AI safety and write about them in a way that’s tangible for a mainstream audience.

    + Stay close to regulatory developments, policy changes and global competition, particularly from China.

    + Work closely with editors, reporters and video creators and TV producers on in-depth stories and multimedia packages.

     

    Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

    + Bachelor’s degree in journalism, a related field or relevant work experience.

    + 5+ years of journalism experience with a strong track record of original reporting.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of AI technologies, the tech industry and financial markets.

    + Strong sourcing skills and experience working under deadline pressure.

    + Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative newsroom environment.
