We are seeking to appoint a Senior Commercial Counsel to provide broad and often complex legal support to our global business. The role will report directly into Abcam’s General Counsel and is based at Abcam’s Waltham site, in MA, US.
This role works directly with associates at all levels of the business, from individual contributors to senior leadership, in many different functional areas, including:
+ Commercial (sales, marketing and business development)
+ Product (development and management)
+ Operations (supply chain, manufacturing, EH&S, real estate, etc.)
+ Compliance and Enablement (QARA/MAPPS, etc.)
You will be motivated to be part of a highly regarded team looking to build a fantastic legal function by offering true solutions led support. This is a fantastic opportunity for a bright and ambitious lawyer to work within the Danaher Life Sciences group and help further grow Abcam's legal offering.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
+ To be a person of influence at Abcam’s Waltham site, serving as one of the legal and compliance team’s primary contacts in the US. Managing a team consisting of a contracts manager and paralegal helping to build efficient contracting processes through our CLM and working on continuous process improvement initiatives
+ Being the legal lead for our global sales and business development teams and support negotiating and drafting MSAs, custom development agreements, supply agreements, licenses, collaboration agreements, research agreements etc.
+ Partnering with specialist attorneys, both within Abcam/Danaher and externally, on IP, employment, regulatory, compliance, M&A, joint venture/strategic partnership, and other matters and manage US based disputes, including litigations
+ Developing and providing training for the global business with respect to legal issues, policies, and procedures. Representing the Legal function in various leadership meetings and actively contributing to the development and good business conduct of Abcam’s business
The essential requirements of the job include:
+ a JD from an accredited U.S. law school and have active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
+ a minimum of 7 years of practice as a US licensed attorney, ideally a combination of law firm practice and in-house experience – preferably in the life sciences industry
+ the ability to manage a global client base and calendar with the ability to balance numerous cross functional matters and prioritize effectively as business needs dictate
+ excellent leadership qualities, including strategic thinking and attention to mentoring and development of other team members
+ the ability to communicate and work effectively with associates at all levels of the company, from most junior to most senior, employing a service-oriented, business-minded approach to the practice of law
+ a team player with a "can do" attitude, the ability to work with others, a collaborative and constructive approach and a desire to learn
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
+ Identifying gaps in processes, implementing process improvement, and crafting standard work to drive those improvements
+ Drafting and implementing policies and procedures and creating agreements templates
A degree or higher in a natural sciences discipline would also be an advantage but is not essential.
Travel Requirements:
+ Circa 15% travel, overnight, within territory or locations
